Dennis Erb, Jr. Knocked from Contention in Silver Dollar Nationals; Macon Tonight
(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Dennis Erb, Jr. and his #28 team pulled through the pit gate at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on July 22-23 for the 6th edition of the 'Silver Dollar Nationals,' which was co-sanctioned by both the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Lucas Oil MLRA Series. The unique format for the $40,000 to win crown jewel event kicked off with double heat races on Friday night and passing points determined the lineup for Saturday's portion of the weekend. Dennis ran third in both of his heat races on Friday and accumulated the eleventh most passing points during the prelims.
After starting the 80-lap headliner from the inside of the sixth row, Dennis stormed to the front of the talented field and battled for the lead with Jonathan Davenport shortly after the halfway mark in the race. Unfortunately, the Carpentersville, Illinois star suffered a flat left front tire on lap 66 after contact caused by Brandon Sheppard on two successive restarts. A frustrated Erb returned to the track with a new tire, but could only muster a fourteenth place finish in the 'Silver Dollar Nationals.' Dennis still sits sixth in the latest version of the LOLMDS point standings following I-80. Full results can be accessed online at www.lucasdirt.com.
Dennis Erb Racing will look to rebound from the disappointment in the Cornhusker State with a pair of marquee events this week in the Land of Lincoln. The tiny Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois will greet the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series later tonight, July 26 for the 3rd Annual ‘St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100,’ which boasts a $12,000 payday. The dirt-slinging action will then shift to Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on July 29-30 for the annual running of the ‘Prairie Dirt Classic.’ A $27,000 top prize will be on the line at FALS over the weekend in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series biggie.
