TSMA finalizes agreement with Hoosier Racing Tires
Tri-State Modified Association director Tye Twarog is pleased to announce that Hoosier Racing Tire has joined American Racing Tire as a sponsor of the TSMA Hot Mod division.
"Hoosier's Shannon Rush and I have been in nearly constant contact for the last couple of weeks to put the finishing touches on the deal. The contract has been signed, and we both look forward to being a part of the growth of the Hot Mod division."
This agreement will allow racers on either brand of tire to share in the season ending point funds and contingencies.
Both tire manufacturers also share the concern of the possible and dangerous practice of tire doping. The treatment of tires to gain a possible advantage usually involves chemicals that are carcinogenic and known to cause cancer. Incorrectly used, they also damage the tires. Both American Racer and Hoosier Racing Tire highly discourage the use of these illegal treatment agents, and have worked in conjunction with each other to set durometer limitations for Hot Mod tires.
Any tire used in TSMA Hot Mod competition must durometer a minimum of '60'.
2010 was the initial season for the TSMA Hot Mod's, the class at that time being in only it's second year. Under the TSMA banner, and with a change in car construction rules which will allow current modified frames, but with limited suspension options, the class has gained attention and interest from the regions racers as well as promoters.
"Promoters from the mid-Ohio Valley region, from PA to southern OH, have been in contact with me about the Hot Mod class. A lot of folks are watching this class develop, looking at the rules, and seeing the potential for this economical class of modifieds."
The basis of the Hot Mod division rules is to encourage competition by limiting engine c.i.d., compression, carburetion and ignition. Rear suspension and shock absorber limitations, and the spec'ed single tread design and rubber compound Hoosier or American Racer tires are all intended to minimalize the cost to compete.
Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, WV), West Virginia Motor Speedway (Mineral Wells, WV) and the soon to reopen Legendary Hilltop Speedway (Marietta, OH) will all include the TSMA Hot Mods in their regular race programs, with special class events also in the works.
"Even at this late date, we're awaiting decisions from some additional tracks in regards to this class. If that materializes, we'll get the word out as soon as possible." added Twarog.
Complete Hot Mod rules are available on the TSMA website at www.tristatemods@yahoo.com . Questions or inquiries are be made either through the dedicated Hot Mod e-mail box at "tsmahotmods@hotmail.com" or by phoning the TSMA office at 740-391-9990.
The TSMA sanctions open wheel modified racing through it's TSMA modified and Hot Mod divisions in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
