Harriman, Tennessee – Wartburg Speedway's first open practice of the season scheduled for Saturday, April 16 has been cancelled. Crews are currently in the middle of putting down new clay onto the racing surface and will not be finished in time for the open practice. Approximately 30 loads of dirt have been brought in with another 50-60 loads coming in this week into early next week.

“We’ve put down about 30 loads of dirt already,” said Mike Kittrell, owner of Wartburg Speedway. “We have another 50-60 more loads we need to get down. I’d rather go ahead and get it finished now than try to do this in the middle of the season. It’s so tough to get things like that done when you’re in the middle of racing.”

Other improvements also continue to take place. The P.A. system has been reworked and other improvements are in the works.

The season opener is still scheduled for Saturday, April 23 with all classes running that night. Also, a few adjustments have been made to the schedule due to the start of the season being pushed back a few weeks. Go to www.wartburgspeedway.net for the revised schedule and other information.
