K-C Raceway Results The Classic 4/30/2011

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Oh what an opening night! Schrader's K-C Raceway and the O'Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions made a slam dunk as a huge car count, beautiful weather, and a great crowd produced the perfect backdrop for a great night of high-speed racing. The Salt Rock Express, Eddie Carrier, Jr. of Salt Rock, WV blitzed the field in the 3rd Annual 40-lap, $4,000 to win "Classic". Danny Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio claimed the companion $3,000 Midwest All-Star feature, and perennial champion Jamie Adams claimed the Hobby Stock feature.
An elated Carrier returned to K-C victory lane where he has had a series of double-digit wins over the past eight years. Said Carrier, "I drew that eight (pill) and thought 'awe no, my job just got harder'. We've had some bad luck lately, so maybe this will turn it around, We will just keep a diggin' and working harder, and see what happens. It's good to be here in victory lane."
"I'd like to thank Grover Motorsports and Engines Inc. and my Dad. He and I were THE crew tonight and Dad worked really hard to help get us here."
The Late Model evening began when Donnie Moran came with thirteen-hundredths of Jackie Boggs' ten year old track record. Numerous other cars timed in the mid 13:00's as the cool afternoon locked down moisture early on the fast 3/8 mile speed plant.
Jeep VanWormer drew the one pill and sat alongside outside pole-sitter, and former World 100 winner Matt Miller. VanWormer blasted into the lead ahead of Miller and Zach Dohm, however, "Insane Duane" Chamberlain, the Indiana charger had his car 'every-which-way-but-loose'. Chamberlain's mount was loose and Jack Hewitt-fast and on-the-edge. Chamberlain sacked Dohm on lap six for second place as eighth place starter Carrier, Jr. quickly stormed up to fourth.
Josh McGuire, Grayson, KY brought out the yellow to bunch up the field for the Delaware-style restart on lap eight. Carrier immediately moved into third and challenged Chamberlain.
Mark Frazier, Jason Montgomery, and R.J. Conley battled hard for fifth place for numerous go-rounds, as VanWormer quickly worked his way into lapped traffic by the 16th circuit. Chamberlain and Carrier dueled ruthlessly during the span.
A lap 17 caution for a slowing Chad Smith brought out the second caution of the night. Just as fast as he streaked to the lead, Van Wormer exited the speedway with mechanical problems under the same caution, handing the lead to Chamberlain. Carrier won the drag race into turn number one to take the lead while Jason Montgomery leap-frogged two spots into fourth.
R.J. Conley, Mark Frazier, and Boom Briggs came together on lap 20, sending Frazier helplessly down the front chute backwards. The rest of the field continued in evasive fashion setting up the third restart. Chamberlain suffered a flat during caution and did not return.
Montgomery stalked Carrier for the remainder of the race as that duo marched away from the rest of the field. Both worked precariously through traffic as R.J. Conley began to reel in the pair, only to be stonewalled by a gaggle of back-markers with four laps to go.
At the 37 lap mark Montgomery drove to within three car lengths, but Carrier's Ford had just a little too much punch to claim the win over Montgomery. Montgomery had claimed the last All-Star Feature at K-C in the Halloween 50 last October. Terry Hicks was the hard-charger in a 21st to tenth place run.
Rounding out the top ten were Eddie Carrier, Jr., Jason Montgomery, R.J. Conley, Rod Conley, Matt Miley, Doug Dodd, Greg Oakes, Delmas Conley, Jeff Burdette, and Terry Hicks.
Danny Smith pulled off a double this weekend, first by taking Attica by storm, then completing the perfect weekend with the "Classic" All-Star win at K-C. The win was indeed popular for the Chillicothe driver, whose home city has adopted Smith as their favorite son.
"A little less than a year ago... June 18," said Smith, "I was laying in the hospital with a broken back, wondering what I was gonna do in the future and wondering if I would ever drive again. Fans from all over pitched in and helped me out with money and prayers. This race is for all of you. I appreciate it and dedicate this win to you."
Rob Chaney blasted into the lead and was in early command of the 30-lap sprint main. Kyle Sauder gave chase in second until fifth place starter Danny Smith engaged Sauder in a ten-lap side-by-side shootout. By lap six Chaney charged into heavy traffic. On the 15th circuit Danny Smith bagged Kyle Sauder for second place, when just one lap later Sheldon Haudenschild jumped the cushion and flipped hard off turn three. The second generation Haudenschild was uninjured; however, the flip inspired Dad Jac who buried the throttle the remainder of the event.
Smith had rocketed from 10th in quick order to challenge for the top three. "The Wild Child", however, took some time to get heat in the tires of the Jamie Miller #6, but when the tires kicked in Haud began a wild rim-ride to the front.
After a lap 17 restart for a spinning Todd Kane, it took Danny Smith just a lap to take command. Haudenschild and Greg Wilson came on strong in the waning stages of the race, but lapped traffic slowed their momentum and possibly a chance for the win.
Rounding out the top ten were Danny Smith, Rob Chaney, Jac Haudenshcild, Greg Wilson, Jared Ridge, Kyle Sauder, Ron Blair, Mike Long, Travis Philo, and Bryce (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son. Smith was the hard charger of the race in a 10th to 1st run.
Nick Naber, Josh Davis, and Jesse Mc Creary all took hard flips in the preliminaries.
