UFo “PENNational†at PPMS Rescheduled for June 11! Thunder Valley Next Up May 21!
(Mars, PA) – The UFo “PENNational†at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway has been rescheduled due to inclement weather for the weekend. This new event date is Saturday, June 11.
The UFo Super Late Models will race in twin 28-lap features for $4,000 total to win and $350 total for 24th. Non-qualifiers will be paid $150, which is the highest tow money of any series. The twin feature format always provides spectacular racing on the wide ½ mile and distributes the winnings more evenly among race teams. John Flinner of Zelienople PA and Mike Johnson of Imperial, PA spilt the wins in the 2010 version.
The UFo “PENNational†will also be Colussy Chevrolet Night, where fans can see the newest Chevrolet models form the Bridgeville dealer. The FASTRAK Pro-Lates will pay $550, E-mods $450 and Cadets $350. The Hobby & Young Guns will also be on the schedule. Due to a previously scheduled UEMS race that series will not be part of June 11. The status of ULMS at the event will be determined in the upcoming week.

The UFo Race Championship will fly into the Thunder Valley Raceway at Central City, PA on Saturday, May 21 for the “Shawn McGarvey Showdown.†This event will mark the 1st-ever full racing program for the UFo Super Late Models at this Laurel Highlands race track, as 3 attempts of this event at TVR in 2010 were foiled by weather.
The “Shawn McGarvey Showdown†is a tribute to multi-time TVR Limited Late Model track champion who was lost in a work-related accident in 2009. Shawn was a full-time competitor on the UFo Race Championship in the 2008 season and finished 5th in the final points. He also captured track championships at Dog Hollow Speedway and Central PA Speedway.
The UFo Super Late Models will compete in a 38P-lap feature event paying $3,008P, in honor of Shawn’s car number. A full program of extended lap heat races and consolation(s) will determine the starting grid. TVR, with its park-like setting, offers both grandstand seating and hillside seating for lawn chairs. TVR has attracted great fields of Super Late Models at its 2011 events. With the track’s central location and its strong field of home track competitors, an excellent field of UFo Super Late Models is expected for this East vs. West face-off.
TVR’s Semi-Late/Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4-Cylinders and Cruisers will round out the racing program. Gates will open at 5:00 with warm-ups at 7:00 and racing at 7:30 PM. Tickets will be $18 for the Grandstands for ages 11 and over, and $30 for the pits.

UFo “Triple TnT†will be a bonanza for late model fans as the event will include three 25-lap late model-type championship races. The UFo Super Late Models will compete in twin 25-lap features paying $4,000 to win both, or $2,000 to win each. The track’s Late Model Sportsman (limited/steel block/crate late models) class will also run a 25-lap championship paying $1,000 to the winner. Hesston track rules will limit a driver to compete in only one division at these events.
The Pro-Street, Hobby, Mod-4 and Factory-4 divisions will also be in competition at Hesston. Hesston will use a unique 2-session format schedule where the Pro-Street, Hobby, Mod-4 and Factory-4 divisions will warm-up and compete in their heat races, consolations and/or some features beginning at 5:00 to approximately 7:00 PM. The track will be completely re-prepped followed by Super Late Model and Late Model Sportsman warm-ups, heats and consolations beginning at approximately 7:30 PM with features for some of the other classes following. Gates will open at 3:30.
Hesston continues to undergo mass renovation. The relocation of the outer pit area, expanded spectator parking and additional turn seating are among the 2011 improvements to the facility. The exit of turn 4 has been re-banked to provide even better racing action on the 4/10 mile.
