(Ringgold, Ga) As the fans filled the stands the racers were busy fine tuning their respective racing machine in the record heat. As the hot laps got underway it was quickly access by track owners Richard and Robert Harvey and track promoter Gar (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son that the record heat had excessively dried out the racing surface. So the decision was made to postpone further hot laps to address the dusty issues that Mother Nature had handed the 1/3 mile clay oval. Track personnel began to water areas of the track to provide the fans and racers a better racing surface. Big thanks were extended to the A-Hobby racers for their efforts in packing the racing surface back in for the nights show. As racing got underway the first of the divisional heat races were brought to the racing surface. In the first B-Hobby heat newcomer Soddy Daisy’s Lamar Hughes lead the field to the checkered flag. In the second B-Hobby heat Point Leader Dallas Brooks finished first again, but it was the action behind him that brought the fans some concern. On the first lap the #J42 driven by Adam Jolly lost control of his blue racing machine and hit the turn three wall. His car got up high onto the fence taking out 40 foot of fencing and left his racer upside down on its top with him inside. Track Emergency personnel freed Jolly from his car unhurt, but his racing machine was a total loss. In Crate Late Model Heat #1 Jerry Coffman finished in front of Jeff Smith to take the pole for the nights feature. In Heat #2 Jason Welshan lead flag to flag to earn the outside pole position. A-Hobby winners were Bogger Brooks and Len McNeese. Seventeen Steel Headed Late Models lined up for the two heats to determine the starting position for the nights feature. Cleveland Tennessee Lamar Scoggins took the first heat while Pat Castleberry took the second. In the last of the heats Front Wheel Driver winners were James Dykes and Tommy Hughes. The Feature lineups were now set and it was now time to race for the top prize and a week of bragging rights over your fellow competitors. In B-Hobby could anyone challenge multi winner and current point’s leader Dallas Brooks for the top prize? For six laps it appeared that newcomer Lamar Hughes had what it took, but on lap 7 Hughes retired his machine to the pits with mechanical issues. Brooks wasn’t challenge from that point on taking another victory over Roy Baker, Corey Sanders, Jacob Stewart and Derrick Forgey. In Crate Late Model 2 of the top 4 starters had visited victory lane already this year. Maryville’s TN Jason Welshan would start on the outside pole alongside Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman seeking his first win of the year. Welshan would take the lead on lap one followed by last week’s winner Jeff Smith. Welshan would lead every lap while Smith held on to second after battling hard charger Soddy Daisy’s Robby Mason. David Tindell and Jerry Coffman would round out the top five. Next up would bring the A-Hobby racers to the front stretch to line up for the start of their 15 lap feature. Booger Brooks would lead the field to the green, but it would be Kimball, TN’s Steve Tate taking the early lead. It appeared that Tate would get his first victory of the year leading 14 ¾ laps, but on the final turn of the final lap Brooks slide up in front of Tate taking the victory from Tate. Tate took second followed by Len McNeese, Travis Lawson and Tony “COWBOY” Todd. The nights Main Event was up next as the Steel Headed Late Models were lined up and ready to compete for the 25 laps and the top prize of $1000. Two Cajun veterans that have competed against each other for years would see Cleveland’s Lamar Scoggins start alongside of former Southern Allstars Division Champion Ringgold’s Jamie Perry. Perry took the lead at the drop of the green followed by Scoggins. A lap 3 caution for the slowing Pat Castleberry would tighten the field back up for the restart. Perry would continue to lead as the race would go caution free for the remainder of the event. Perry would take another victory and close the points race between he and points leader Scoggins to only 4 points. Super Late Model racer and newcomer to the division Kevin Gibson would finish third followed by James Gamble and Brian Jackson. The final race of the night would see the Front Wheel Drive Division lineup for the 15 lap feature. James Dykes would lead Tommy Hughes to the green. Dykes took the lead while on lap 2 Tommy Hughes saw his racer break free exiting turn 4 and spin bringing out the caution for the first time. A good battle between Dykes and Matt Patton up front was going on until a lap 13 caution for the second time as Tommy Hughes lost a right front wheel exiting turn four sending him into the outside wall with heavy contact. As the track officials cleaned up the damage from Hughes collision leader Matt Patton had come to a stop in turn 2 needing a push to the infield. Dykes would take the victory followed by Thomas Gilbert, Daniele Burnette, Richard Hickman and Jared Blevins. A good show had been completed and the staff of Boyd’s Speedway would like to thank the fans for their patience early as the track was watered and packed for the evening’s event. A special thanks to the A-Hobby drivers that helped with the packing process. Next week will have a regular racing program in all divisions.

Sorry B K what I meant to say and thought I had typed in was that both Jamie Perry and Lamar Scoggins are "Cajun Like" they both work and play with the same enthusiasm as the Cajun culture. They both have always worked hard for what they have and can be respected for it. Once again thanks for pointing out my error.
