R.J. Conley, Kenny Johnson, Jamie Adams take K-C wins!
Adams Accepts $100 Challenge/Comes from Tail to Win!

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- The Conley name came back to victory lane, but this time it was in the form of R.J. Conley, Wheelersburg, Ohio who took the AMRA Late Model checkered flag at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway Saturday night, June 4. Conley bested the field of 17 of the region's finest drivers before another good crowd at the Ross County high-banks.
Both the AMRA Advanced Services Modified main and Hobby Stock main were nail biters. High-side Invader and defending AMRA National Champion, Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV battled hard with 9-time track champion Bob Crace, Jr. before stretching it out for the Modified win. Jamie Adams came from last to first to claim the Dan Reno Hobby Stock Main.
In the Dan Reno Hobby Stocks Brandon Thompson and Bruce Gray, Jr. paced the field to flagman Daryl Owen's green flag. Perennial Champion and defending champion Jamie Adams accepted a personal $100 challenge from owner Jeff Schrader and gave up his starting spot on the pole to start scratch in 15th. The move set up an exciting race and kept the fans abuzz until the final checkered flag.
With Adams starting on the tail, the early stages of the race saw Gray and Thompson battle viciously for the top spot. Tommy Mossbarger joined Brandon Mather in an equally spirited battle that often saw two pairs of cars two-wide at the front of the pack. As the halfway point of the 20-lapper approached Gray began to stretch his lead, and Adams had made it to a distant 7th when the only caution of the race waved.
The caution renewed Adams' spirit and also renewed the battle between Gray and Thompson. Gray continued to lead with Thompson at his quarters and Mather close in wake. Adams began a surge forward and in one lap passed three cars to fourth. As the 16th marker rolled around it was Gray, Thompson and Adams nearly three wide with Adams taking second a lap later, then making the race winning pass on lap 18. A large portion of the big crowd stayed to watch the challenge and was on their feet the last five laps, praising the great show of all the drivers.
Mather, Mossbarger and Tim Cutler also had good runs. Rounding out the top ten were Jamie Adams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Brandon Thompson, Brandon Mather, Tommy Mossbarger, Tim Cutler, Dan Lewis, Phil Rice, Jack Martin, and Chad Hopkins.
Said Adams, "Whew, I' tired. I don't know if I will every try that ($100 Challenge) again...It's too much work! The car was great, but the caution really helped me. Bruce and Brandon had good cars and were hard to catch. I ran a little harder tire tonight and threat may have been the difference. Thanks to Jeff for offering the challenge and for the fans who stayed to support us."

"I knew the start was important because Duane is a super racer and if he got out front it might have been a different story," said Conley in victory lane. Instead the two ran side-by-side into turn one with Conley winning the drag race out of turn two. Conley's words held true as Chamberlain, former champ Mark Frazier, and David Powers all stayed within striking distance. Doug Drown and Chris Wilson also established charges to the front and another former champion Jeff Houser posted his second straight ran from the back to challenge for a top five.
Greggie Oliver suffered mechanical woes and was clipped by Drown for only the second caution of the night on lap 19. On the restart, Chamberlain suffered a flat leaving Frazier, Powers, Houser, and Chris Wilson to put an assault on Conley. When the dust had settled and penalties from an after race scuffle had accrued, the top ten filtered into a R.J. Conley, Chris Wilson, David Powers, Dean Boyd, Shannon Roese, Paul Davis, Dillon Huron, Ken Howell, Duane Chamberlain, Doug Drown finale.
Although Dillon Huron was the hard-charger with a great run from 16th to 7th, Dean Boyd, Shannon Roese, and Paul Davis all charged from beyond 15th into the top ten with credible runs.
Added Conley, "The car worked well tonight. It was a hot night and it wore me out. I have to thank Conley Trucking, Rocket, Draime, our crew and all the fans that come out and watch us put on a show."
Before the races, Kenny Johnson was mulling the idea of asking Jeff Schrader for a last to first challenge. "But I knew that it would be tough with all the great cars and drivers that are here at K-C. It's always tough to win at K-C even from the front."
Johnson was right! Johnson had to charge from sixth in a run that saw him pass some of the best in the open wheel ranks -- Bob Crace, Jr., Luke Jordan, Late Model ace Doug Drown, Miles Cook, and Fireball Pinkerton. Behind him was a host of more hot iron and great drivers, whittled down from a 28-car field to the starting 20.
Crace took the early lead and ran the high side and Johnson picked-em off one at a time. "In the heat Bob (Crace) beat me, but showed me the high side was fast. But I knew it would be hard to get around him, so I had to move to the bottom. It's a lot more work at the bottom," laughed Johnson.
While Crace led and Johnson charged, Brian Whiteman, the 2010 K-C champ moved up through the pack along with K-C stalwart Jeremy Rayburn. Drown got in a skirmish and had to go to the tail on lap 7, where he ignited a run from last to 5th at the finish. Shortly thereafter, Johnson blasted by Crace, setting a late-race dual between Crace and Pinkerton.
With five laps to go Pinkerton, last week's winner, bested his fellow Chillicothe friend for runner up. Rounding out the top ten were Kenny Johnson, Fireball Pinkerton, Jeremy Rayburn, Bob Crace, Jr., Doug Drown, Brian Whiteman, Luke Jordan, Steve Clemmons, John Arthurs, and Kevin Delaney. The hard chargers were Jeremy Rayburn, John Arthurs, Kevin Delaney (Advanced seven spots each), although veteran Bud Frazier may have passed the most cars during the evening. Frazier started scratch in the B and came to third, then came from 16th to 12th in the feature.
"Thanks to the Highside fans," bellowed Johnson. "Thanks to Tim (Cooper) and Chad (Nelson) my crew, Outlaw Race Parts, Shaw Chassis and all my friends and sponsors."
The final on track interview was completed at 9:35 p.m. as K-C staff worked hard to beat the severe storms that hit the area shortly thereafter.
K-C will continue its 2011 season with a field of 410 Outlaw Sprints, Advanced Services Modifieds, and Dan Reno Hobby Stocks Saturday, June 11. This will also be Fan Appreciation Night where all fans get in for just $5 to see one of the best weekly shows in the nation!
