Cook Captures Inaugural USDCS Rain Dodger 40 at Richmond Raceway Richmond, KY

June 11, 2011- The United Super DirtCar Series held its inaugural event on Saturday evening at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC would lead the final eight laps of an exciting event to grab the $3,000 payday at the Joey and Tiffany Tackett promoted facility.

Mike Jewell would take the lead at the drop of the green flag and would hustle out to about a five car length lead over the field, but would quickly be joined in a battle for the lead by Dustin Linville, Aaron Hatton, Ray Cook, and Victor Lee. By lap 10, the front five were literally under a blanket battling for the top five positions, with Linville finally going to the outside of Jewell to take the race lead exiting turn two.

After a caution slowed the action, business really picked up at the front with Linville, Cook, and Lee would battle back and forth and at times three-wide for the lead, with Hatton also in the mix as well. The turning point of the race came on lap 32 when Cook and Linville exited turn two side-by-side racing hard for the top spot when the duo made contact, with Linville making contact with outside retaining barrier and spinning down the backchute, ending his night with a damaged race car.
The final eight circuits would see Cook keep Lee at bay to grab the race win. Cook’s win came aboard the Danny Dishman owned A Plus Moving and Storage/Hicks and Ingle Company/VP Racing Fuels #53 MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a RED Race Engine. Lee would settle for second, while Hatton claimed third. Jewell would ride home in fourth, while Tyrel Todd completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Bobby Carrier, Jr., Todd Coffman, Skylar Marlar, David Webb, and Jason Barrett.
In preliminary action, Ray Cook was the overall top qualifier in group time trials at 14.914 seconds among 23 entries. Mike Jewell would win Budda Bert Transmission Sales and Service heat one, Justin Rattliff would win Double H Race Fabrication heat two, Dustin Linville would score Graphic Impressions heat three, and David Webb captured Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat four. Aaron Ridley would win the Revelution Chassis B-Main.
The next USDCS event will be on Sunday July 3 at 191 Speedway in Campton, KY. For more information about the United Super DirtCar Series, visit the series website at www.usdcs.com or phone series race director Jeff Evans at (859) 358-7178.
