Tim Dohm wins at PRP June 25th
By: T. J. Layne
PORTSMOUTH, OH-It was another action packed night of racing at the Coleman family owned Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday, June 25th as 107 race cars and a packed grandstand filled the track for the “Roger W. Davis Funeral Home Kids Night.â€
In Late Model action, “The Showstopper†Tim Dohm took the lead from polesitter Chris Wilson to lead lap one. Dohm immediately pulled out to a six car length lead as the action was hot and heavy from the third position on back. Nobody would be able to challenge Dohm however as the Cross Lanes, West Virginia driver came across the checkered flag to take the $2,000 feature win! Dohm became the third different Late Model feature winner in three races this season. Chris Wilson finished second with Harold Redman Jr. third, Josh Bocook fourth, and R. J. Conley fifth. Dohm won the dash race while Adkins and Nick Bocook won heat races. Kenny Christy won the B-Main.
Doug “the Buzzard†Adkins was victorious not once, but two times in the Modified division. Adkins dominated the make-up feature from June 18th as well as the nights regular feature event to visit PRP victory lane twice and win a total of $1,200. Adkins has been undefeated thus far this season in Modified action at PRP.
Just like Adkins in the Modified division, Coal Grove, Ohio’s John Melvin visited victory lane twice to take home a total of $2,000. Melvin won the make-up “Premiere Precast Products Limited Late Model Extravaganza†in a great race over Rick Robinson to claim the first feature win and then dominated the nights second feature. Melvin is also undefeated in Limited Late Model action at PRP this season.
On a night that saw great racing in all divisions, perhaps the Bomber division put on the most exciting race. In the make-up feature from June 18th, Shane Pendleton, Jeremie Bretz, and Joe McGinnis had a three way side by side battle for the lead. The three battled the whole race until lap 8 when McGinnis had to pull off with mechanical issues. That left the battle for the win in the races final four laps between Pendleton and Bretz. Pendleton and Bretz stayed side by side up to the races final lap with highside momentum carrying Pendleton to the feature win by a half a car length in a thrilling race!
In the night’s regular Bomber feature, it would be Jeremie Bretz taking the feature win in another exciting race. Robbie Lewis finished second with Shane Pendleton third, Jason Spillman fourth, and #7j fifth.
PRP will be in action on Saturday, July 2nd in one of the biggest races of the season as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will invade the track for a 50 lap, $10,000 to win show sponsored by Carl Grover Motorsports and Engines Inc. Modifieds-$600 to win and Limited Late Models-$500 to win will also be in action. General admission is $25 with pit passes $35. Gates will open at 4:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights action at 6:45 pm. For more information please visit www.portsraceway.com.
