    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Devin Friese cruises down the Supernational Road at Roaring Knob for UFo Race Championship!

Markleysburg, PA (July 9, 2011) Devin Friese from Chambersburg, PA extended his point lead for the UFo Race Championship by winning the 41-lap Supernational Road event on Saturday night at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, earning $3,000 for his efforts.

With 25 cars on hand, three qualifying heats were run. The top four finishers went into the redraw for the top 12 starting positions for the main, as all drivers transferred into the feature event. Tim Senic was the winner of Heat 1 from second starting position. Bob Gordon took the win in Heat 2 from fourth starting spot. Second starting Jacob Hawkins was the winner of Heat 3.

First heat winner Tim Senic drew for all drivers in the redraw. After getting a 6 for his starting spot, front row starting spots went to Jacob Hawkins and Devin Friese for the 41-lap Supernational Road main event. The event got off to a slow start, as three complete restarts were needed before racing action officially began. Once the race started things improved greatly, as just four more cautions waved over the 41-lap distance.

Hawkins and Friese led the field to the green flag on the fourth try, and raced side by side with Hawkins leading lap 1 on the inside as they remained door to door. They remained side by side, but Friese made the outside move as he cleared Hawkins exiting turn two, and he would take over the top spot on lap 2. Chad McClellan was third, but lost the spot to Tommy Beck on lap 3. Tim Senic and Jared Hawkins passed McClellan on the next lap, as Friese led the way comfortably. By lap 10, Friese reached the tail of the field and began dropping cars from the lead lap as racers used all grooves around the track. Senic moved to third on lap 10, with Jared Hawkins passing Beck for fourth the next time by.

The next yellow flag appeared on lap 14, as Greg Tressler slowed on the backstretch. A tangle between Mason Ziegler and Jeff Jones on the attempted restart froze the lap counter at 14. Leader Friese had his lane choice for the double file restart, and chose the high side where he had spent the majority of the race. When racing resumed he again led the way over Jacob Hawkins, Jared Hawkins, Senic, and McClellan. Caution again slowed the pace with 18 laps in as Matt Dobnak slowed.

Friese from the outside led the field back to green leading Jacob Hawkins, Jared Hawkins, McClellan, and 13th starting Mel Minnick. McClellan advanced to third on lap 20, with Minnick passing Jared Hawkins on lap 23. Minnick took third from McClellan on lap 24. From starting position 20, Ron Delano, Jr. was on the charge through the field, as he advanced to fifth on lap 32. He passed McClellan to take fourth on lap 33, before the final caution period appeared for Keith Barbara stopping in turn four.

From the outside groove again, Friese led the field back to the green flag. Jacob Hawkins held second over Delano, Minnick, and Jared Hawkins with 34 laps complete. Jared Hawkins took fourth from Minnick, as Delano moved to the inside of Jacob Hawkins in the battle for second. Delano would nose ahead with two laps remaining, as they would stay side by side until the finish.

Devin Friese would control the remaining distance in scoring the victory, leading 40 of the 41 laps. Ron Delano, Jr. would turn in a spectacular drive in finishing second, advancing forward from 20th starting position. Jacob Hawkins was third, just ahead of his older brother Jared in fourth. Mel Minnick was fifth, from 13th starting spot. Tim Senic was sixth, with Jared Miley climbing from 19th starting spot to finish seventh. Defending UFo point champion Chad McClellan, Gary Dalton, and Danny Pugh filled the top ten.

Devin Friese now has a 25 point lead over Jared Miley in the UFo Race Championship point standings. Keith Barbara is third over Chad McClellan and Quintin Wyandt. Danny Mitchell, Matt Dobnak, Jared Hawkins, Jacob Hawkins, and Bob Gordon round out the top ten.

Next up for the UFo Race Championship is a visit to the Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, PA on Sunday, July 17 to take part in the “Connor Bobik 100”, paying $4,000 to win and $400 to start.
