UFo & 3 State Flyers Battle for “King of the Knob†on September 10 Plus Bonus Super LM Feature!
(Mars, PA) UFo and 3 State Flyers will converge at Roaring Knob on Saturday, September 10 for the annual “King of the Knob.†Fans will get a double bonus of high-speed action, as the track’s rained out Super Late Model feature from August 27 will be run with the “King of the Knob.â€
The Area 51-lap UFo/3SF Super Late Model championship will pay $5,000 to win and $400 to start. All non-qualifiers will receive $150. The event will be the 3 State Flyers 2011 season finale. Pro-Lates, Street Stocks, Chargers and Roadrunners will also be on the racing program.
Feature races were rained out at Roaring Knob on Saturday, August 27, setting up the UFo/3SF “King of the Knob†to be a double feature night for the Super Late Models. The field has been set for this 25-lap feature from the heat races that were completed that night.
Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsburg, MD is the defending race champion. Other previous winners of the “King of the Knob†include DJ Myers, Jeremy Miller, Jason Covert, Neil Brown, Gary Dalton, Bobby Hill, Mike Benedum, Dave Groves, Lynn Geisler and Tom Myers.
Roaring Knob has been generating spectacular racing action in the 2011 season, as the track is consistently racey from top to bottom. Devin Friese of Chambersburg, PA won the UFo “Supernational Road†event at Roaring Knob in July and Covert of Lock Haven, PA won the August 3 State Flyers event from 14th on the starting grid.
Pit gates will open at 4:30 with grandstand gates opening at 5:00. Warm-ups will take place at 6:45 with racing at 7:15. Grandstand admission is $22 with children 10 and under free. All pit tickets are $35.
The payoff for the UFo and 3 State Flyer Super Late Models for the “King of the Knob†Area 51-lap feature at Roaring Knob will be (each race pays ½): 1st-$5,000 2nd-$2,000 3rd-$1,400 4th-$1,200 5th-$1,000 6th-$800 7th-$700 8th-$650 9th-$600 10th-$550 11th-$525 12th-$500 13th-$475 14th-$450 15th-$440 16th-$400 17th-$425 18th-$425 19th-$425 20th-$425 21st-$400 22nd-$400 23rd-$400 24th-$400 $150 paid to all cars that DNQ that make 1 lap on the track under their own power. UFo Race Championship events have NO car entry fee and NO driver membership fees.
The UFo Race Championship is an event marketing alliance among independent supertracks in the PA-WV-MD region. Participating speedways presents their own championship Super Late Model events under the UFo banner throughout the season using common tech and procedure rules with a year-end, group funded, point bonus for the top finishing drivers on the tour. Eligible tracks are within the 3 hour travel distance of the central point of Washington, PA.
