    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“The Ultimate” Re-Energizes at Hesston In October!

(Mars, PA) The biggest racing event ever in the history of the Hesston Speedway will take place on October 21-22. “The Ultimate” will once again conclude the season for the UFo Super Late Models, with a total of $10,000 to win in 2011. The “Challenger Super Championships” will offer big payoffs for the Semi-Late, B-Cadet, Hobby-Modified and Roadrunner classes. With the transition to Hesston, the event returns to its original concept in addition to the increased payoff over the previous year. The total payoff for the event will be over $65,000.

“The Ultimate” has been the UFo finale since the inception of the tour, originating at the Challenger Raceway just 90 miles from Hesston. Hesston promoter Dave Eriksen has demonstrated multiple times in 2011 that he is willing to increase payoffs in return for driver and fan support of his events. “The Ultimate” is no exception as he has boosted the weekend’s total Super Late Model payoff for the event back into the 5-digit range with a total of $10,000 to win.

The same team that formulated the event in 2007 and 2008 at Challenger is highly involved with the 2011 version at Hesston. With Hesston’s proximity to the race’s original location and similar divisions, the tradition of “The Ultimate” and “Challenger Super Championships” will continue. With continued race team and fan support, a goal is in place to build “The Ultimate” at Hesston back to where it left off at Challenger.

Multi-option rules for the Semi-Lates (limited/steel block/crate late model), B-Cadets (street/pro-stocks), Hobby-Modified (pure stock/charger/hobby) will allow cars from all area tracks to compete for the great payoffs in the “Challenger Super Championships.” These rules sets allow all cars to be competitive with weight and spoiler variances according to specific car components. Roadrunners (factory stock 4-cylinders) will race under the basic Hesston rules, which are compatible with most track rules in the area.

Since purchasing the track back into the family in 2009, Eriksen has made mass improvements to the facility in phases and is now ready to host an event of the size of “The Ultimate.” In 2011, the outer pit area and parking were expanded to accommodate more race cars and race fans. For “The Ultimate” a 3rd pit area will be implemented below the 3rd and 4th turns to accommodate the expected car count in all divisions.

Camping will be free and campers will be able to camp inside the gates in the back straight viewing ramp area. Additional camping will be available at the intersection of Redstone Ridge Road and Race Track Road, at Eriksen Well Drilling.

The lap count on the Super Late Models is significant in 2 ways. The 61 lap feature is representative of 1961, the year Hesston opened and the 91 total feature laps is a reference to the year Challenger opened, 1991. Previous winners of “The Ultimate” include Jason Covert of Lock Haven, PA in 2011 at Roaring Knob, Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH in 2010 at PPMS, Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI in 2008 at Challenger and Billy Drake of Bloomington, IN in 2008 at Challenger. “The Ultimate” is know of outstanding racing action with the winner’s average starting position being 14th. Covert won from 10th on the grid, Hartman from 20th, Mars from 12th and Drake from 15th.

With all of the key elements that made “The Ultimate” a huge success at Challenger in tact, a few improvements have been made to the schedule of events. Super Late Models will compete in two separate full racing programs over 2 days for a total of $10,000 to win, with Semi-Lates and B-Cadets racing over 2 days for major payoffs and Hobby-Modified and Roadrunners racing in 1 day programs.

“Mega-Blitz Mach1” will start off with a $2,000 to win, Super Late Model complete, program with a 30-lap feature event. While the race will not award UFo points, UFo rules and format will be in effect. The Semi-Lates (limited/steel block/crate late models) and Cadets (street/pro-stocks) will race in qualifying heat races. A full racing program fro the Roadrunner (front wheel driver 4-cylinders) with a championship feature will take place on Friday paying $400 to win.

“The Ultimate” in 2011 is scheduled to be a 61-lap championship finale to the UFo season paying $8,000 to the winner. The Semi-Lates will race for $2,000 in a 44-lap championship while the Cadets will race for $1,200 in a 33-lap championship. The Hobby-Modified class (pure stock/charger) will run in a full championship program on Saturday with a $700 1st prize.. In case of a rain out on Friday, and alternative 1-day program will be run for the Semi-Lates paying $1,400 to win and the Cadets paying $850 to win. This alternative program is designed to save race teams and race fans from staying at the track past Saturday.
