HOME TRACK ADVANTAGE: TODD MORROW DOMINATES JIMMY MOWERY MEMORIAL S.T.A.R.S TRIPLE CROWN at CLEVELAND SPEEDWAY
Cleveland, TN (9/17/11) --- Doing exactly what all owners/sponsors desire most, defending and two-time Track Champion Todd Morrow (# T48) of East Ridge, Tennessee dominated all three (3) races in the S.T.A.R.S Volunteer Racing series season finale event, named after one of his main cont...ributors family: Jimmy Mowery, Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway. The Triple Crown format gave fans a unique three (3) race format for Super Late Models that included a $500 bonus if any racer picked off all three victories. Morrow, 24 and son to track owner/promoter Monty Morrow received a congradulatory hug from dad in victory lane after pulling off the "hat-trick" of 20 lap victories. The "A&K Transport, Gravitt Roofing, James Mowery Motorsports, Cleveland Speedway, Tindell & Sons Carpet, MidNite Oil Racing Fuel, Stealth Racing Carburators, Gene's Racing Parts, KC Racing Graphics" sponsored RaceTek powered driver took the Elliott's Used Cars & Tire Center $500 bonus for any racer winning all three events, earning a $3,500 payday.
"Dad will be mad at me tomorrow by church time..." joked the BLONDE BOMBER as he climbed from the (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)pit in victory lane. "This means alot to me and to Manual (Mowery) and their family, dad and his staff prepped the track perfect today, it stayed racey all night and never locked-down." Morrow concluded by thanking the fans and all his family for helping him do what he loves (racing)... before posing for bunches of winner photo's.
Just prior to feature race time 22 SLM's signed in for the feature with drivers from six states entered the event. Morrow clocked a 13:536 to earn the Arizona Sport Shirts pole position, leaving Eric Jacobsen of California with a 13:712 fastest in his group qualifying effort on his wing. The duo brought the field to green and it was Morrow getting the lead. S.T.A.R.S points leader Ross White began with a night of hard-knocks after tagging the back straight-away wall ending his 1st race prematurely. In victory lane Morrow pulled the lucky #2 invert putting him and Jacobsen flip-flopped back on the front row for Race #2. Again Morrow got the whole-shot this time from the CAT-BIRDS SEAT and would go on to win in dominant fashion again. With Victory #2 clean in-hand the top two finishers would line up from points earned in the first two races to make up the front row for the third and final installment. Despite Top-5 battles going on behind them Morrow and EJ5 would dance to the tune of their third consecutive one/two finish.
In interesting points championship fashion Jacobsen caught and tied White for the 2011 S.T.A.R.S championship title, making officials revert to number of wins on the series. Jacobsen's Friday night win at nearby Boyd's Speedway and his early May victory at Tazewell (TN) Speedway gave him one more victory than White, which earned him the 2011 Points Championship.
