Ponderosa Speedway Under New Ownership and Management

Junction City, KY-December 11, 2011-Ponderosa Speedway, better known as "Kentucky's Baddest Bullring", will be under new ownership and management beginning with the upcoming 2012 racing season.

Kevin Colston of Frankfort, KY has purchased the 3/8 mile red clay D-shaped oval that is located on the Boyle/Lincoln County border. Colston owns his own paving business and has raced locally in past seasons in the Super Late Model and Pro (Crate) Late Model divisions around the Central Kentucky area.

Colston has also named a promoter for Ponderosa Speedway and that will be Larry Yantz. Yantz, who lives in Waynesburg, KY, was formerly the promoter of Ponderosa Speedway from 2005 until the midpoint of the 2010 race season.

A formal press release will be forthcoming as will an upcoming schedule of events and other details such as race divisions, rules, etc. For more information at this time, interested parties can contact track promoter Larry Yantz at (606) 510-5331.

The track is good,but couldn't come close to the quality of Florence Speedway!

Thats simply a matter of opinion Brian. You are from the Florence area so naturally that track would be more favorable to you,but people in the central Ky area for the most part would be inclined to say Ponderosa is far and away the better facility as far as race quality goes. Florence has history, and a few good paying races but Ponderosa can really throw down some great racing as well.

I would take Ponderosa over Florence any day....While the quality of cars is better at Florence...The racing at the pond is much better due to a smaller track...They get too stretched out at Florence on long green runs....Ill take the Pond!!

Florence is a dusted up race track. Boring at best. Fact......tell some of the Florence boys to come down and race on some actual dirt and see what the results are. Y,all must not get out much if you think that is good racing. Good Lord.

I saw great racing there at a midweek Bluegrass race in 17 ...that view off of T4 is wwild !

Intermission was as bland as could be ..& the fans just sat there..it was weird...

& never saw a re-draw where they didn`t speak to the driver doing the draw...

but the racing was great !

I've seen some great racing at Ponderosa back in the 70's and 80's. Mr. Yantz does not seem to be one that believes in a heavy track, so good luck. I like the track though, when it has traction and doesn't grit blast the fans.

Great to see the Pond back and running with someone that at least know something about racing. I have raced with the Yantz family and they are good people. They will bring the Pond back to where it belongs. A drier smooth racing surface is alot easier on equipment and places the talent back in the drivers hands. Heavy tracks cost everybody lots of money to repair thier cars and not be able to afford to return back to the sport the love to do. I for one do enjoy the racing at both the Pond and Florence. Some people need to check out what is going on at Florence because they seem to be having very good car counts on a regular bases and do know how to treat their fans to a good evening of racing. Yep a drier one lane track with no bite to keep them all from riding the high groove in single file will be much easier on equipment. Anybody got a good book to read?
