After a 3 week hiatus, McCown’s Jackson County Speedway reopened its doors to a spectacle of great racing action. Greggie Oliver won his third feature of the year in the Late Model division, Kenny Johnson lead flag to flag in the modified feature, Jamey Adams once again blitzed the Street Stock feature, Steve Cruse dominated the Outlaw 4 Cyl feature and Joel Richendollar won his second feature of the year in the Mini Wedge Division.
Greggie Oliver and Nick Corbitt lead the field to the green flag in the AMRA Late Model feature. Oliver quickly asserted himself as the leader as third starting Travis Brookover took over the runner up spot on lap 1. KC Burdette started to move thru the field as he took his fifth starting position and battled his way to second by lap 10. Oliver would have to contend with Burdette on a few restarts but Burdette could never really challenge for the lead as Oliver went on to win his third AMRA Late Model feature event. Hard Charger honors went to New Weston, Ohio’s Josh Scott who took his 10th starting spot and finished 6th. At the line the finishing order looked like this, Greggie Oliver, KC Burdette, Travis Brookover, Russ Frohnapfel, Nick Corbitt, Josh Scott, Randy Arms, Robbie Bostic, Kenney Newhouse, Jay Dunaway and Tommy Bigham.
“Worth the price of Admission†Kenny Johnson and Derrick Smith lead the AMRA modified feature to the green as Johnson would jump out to the lead and double duty driver Nick Corbitt would jump to second by the end of lap 1. Johnson would pull away from the field in dominating fashion as he would increase his lead throughout the event. Cars running 2nd through 5th seemed to be evenly matched as all cars would have remain close throughout the event, but without a challenge. 76 year old Bud Frazier, a race car driver for over 5 decades, earned hard charger honors with a 15th to 9th performance. Behind Johnson was Nick Corbitt, Derrick Smith, Brian Whiteman, JP Roberts Jr, Jason Cottrill, Mark Bailey, Kevin Dulaney, Bud Frazier, Bob Crace Jr, Brandon Oliver, Matthew Holcomb, Adrian Crawford, Allen Dunaway and Greggie Oliver.
Jamey Adams and Brandon Mather brought the Street Stock feature to the green flag with Adams jumping out to the lead. On lap 2, Jim Helterbran caused a caution that relegated him to tail. He then began his return to the front, as he was fifth by lap 5 and fourth one lap later. Helterbran would then challenge for third late in the feature, but a bobble in turn three would cause the gap to be too large for another challenge. Adams would go unchallenged for the victory, his fourth of the season. Rounding out the field behind Adams would be Brandon Mather, John Powell Jr, Jim Helterbran, Steve Noble, Brad Miller, Dave Landman, Butch Eblin, Steve Hudnall and Dave Landman.
In the Outlaw 4 Cyl feature, Steve Cruse would dominate the event lapping up to 5th position and almost lapping 4th at the line. Todd Ervin would be the only driver to keep pace with the leader finishing 6-8 car lengths from the leader at the line. Randy Baker would earn hard charger honors as he would go from his eighth starting position to third. Results of the race were Steve Cruse, Todd Ervin, Randy Baker, Virgil Francis Jr, Jamie Baker, Charles Mullins, Adam Jones, Stevie Thornsberry and Randy Taylor.
