WOO at Deer Creek Speedway

Congrats Shane Clanton, maybe the best Late Model race iv'e ever seen. First 29 laps three car battle with Clanton, Mccreedy, Clint Smith, Lanagan and lap traphic took out Birky and Smith. Then last 7 laps or so between Clanton, Mccreedy, Lanagan passing each other at times in the corners. Finish line bumper to bumper to bumper and a nice slide job in 3 and 4 for Clanton, WOW

Last nite was my 1st. trip to Deer Creek speedway & overall it was very good. I had some doubts about farming the race track rite before the latemodel feature,I soon found out that the crew at Deer Creek is excellent when it comes to track prep. The race track was very smooth and very racy so hats off to the Deer Creek track crew. Racing was very good all nite. Both the USMTS Mods & the Woo Latemodel feature had good competitive racing throughout. I must say I felt bad for Brian Birkhofer when he was involved in a incedent between a lapped car & Clint Smith, Brian was running either 3rd.or 4th. at the time when Smith & the lapped car got together on the back stretch. Birkhofer had no where to go because the race track was blocked, so Brian did the best he could to try & slide sideways with the right side of the his car facing the cars that blocked the track. Birkhofers car was too badly damaged for him to continue and had to retire for the nite. This was unfortunate because Birkhofer had just passed Tim McCready for I believe it was 4th. spot & Brian had what I believed to be a racecar that could have competed for the win. Good job by Shane Clanton,Tim McCready & Darell Lanigan in the closing laps, they put on a great show for the fans in the last few laps of the feature,I only wish Birkhofer would not have gotten taken out of the feature by a wreck that he could not avoid,I think Brian would have had an impact on how the race ended. Oh well, I guess thats racing!

That was some great racing. Also, Birky was really coming on before the unfornate incident. He definitely would have been a factor, if not the eventual winner.

Fact is birkhofer was sent to the rear after the wreck with Clint Smith. Typical birkhofer when he doesn't agree with a call he pulls off the track. The rules state that if you are involved in a wreck and stop on the track you go to the rear of the field. I won't buy his shirts because fans want to see races race....not pull of when they don't agree with a call that applies to every racer!

I don't think that was the situation, when Birkhofer pulled off the track he was still listed in 4th possition on the score board. Unless you have some info I don't, I think Brian was going to get his spot back. Birkhofers car had mostly body & interior damage,mayabe it was hurt worse then that I dont know, but I do know this, Birkhofer had a really good race car and he would have been a factor in the final laps!
