The Silver Dollar Nationals is here!

The Silver Dollar Nationals is here!

The biggest race in Nebraska Racing History is finally here. The Second Annual Silver Dollar Nationals will bring together the best regional dirt late model drivers and the best national dirt late model drivers. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be making only its second visit to the Cornhusker State. The Lucas Oil Series has grown to become the premier national touring sanctioning body for dirt late models. It will bring to the Cornhusker States drivers who names have become synonymous with dirt late model racing.

Say the name Scott Bloomquist and dirt late model fans will take notice. Whether they cheer for him or cheer against him, his name has a magical effect when he is in the house. Jimmy Owens is somewhat of a late comer to dirt late model racing but his smooth, patient style has gained the “Newport Nightmare” a huge following of fans. Don O’Neal is the defending champion of the Silver Dollar Nationals and when the “Real Deal” is the house there will be plenty of fireworks. Steve Francis brings a wealth of experience to any dirt late model race and the “Kentucky Colonel” has been running very well lately.

Then there is “the Hurricane” in four-time Lucas Oil Series Champion Earl Pearson, Jr. He has struggled lately but is bound to get his Longhorn Chassis headed in the right direction. A newcomer to the Lucas Oil Series this year is “Superman” Jonathan Davenport in the Barry Wright House Car. While new to the series Davenport is certainly no stranger to victory lane. Jared Landers is known to let it all hang out and is capable of winning any event. Other Lucas Oil drivers expected to be in attendance include; John Blankenship, Tyler Red(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) and Eric Wells.

The Region drivers will be well represented in drivers such as John Anderson, the Omaha native is the defending MLRA Champion and current point leader. Chad and Chris Simpson along with Dave and Denny Eckrich will bring a Corn Belt Clash flavor to the race. Jesse Stovall and Terry Phillips will lead a Missouri contingency into the event and I’m sure several of our local SLMR drivers such as Kyle Berck, Travis (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)es, Jason O’Brien and Justin Zeitner will be in the thick of things.

Of course there is one last group I have mentioned. That’s what I will call the independents, those who don’t follow a series. Leading that group is the one and only “Mr. Smooth” Billy Moyer. Moyer has probably won every event worth winning and in most cases several times. Then there’s the “Iceman” Jimmy Mars who’s been known to win a few marquee events himself. Say “Birky” at a dirt late model race in the Midwest and you will probably get a thunderous ovation from the crowd because that means Brian Birkhofer is in the house. I’m sure there is a lot more coming that I haven’t listed.

In addition to the unique qualifying format which features no time trials and double qualifying races for each driver, this year the SDN tire rule will be Spec WRS-55 or Wissota WRS-55’s only. The Super Late Models will run double qualifying heats on Friday with consolation events, the Al Belt Custom Homes Builders’ Bash for non A feature cars and the big 80 lap $25,000 to win race on Saturday night.

If that isn’t enough the other part of the Silver Dollar Nationals will feature the best modifieds in the country. The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will be running complete shows both on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21. The July 20 event will be a USMTS National event paying $4,000 to win and the Saturday event will be a Casey’s Cup Qualifier paying $2,000 to win.

Expected to be on hand are the best modified drivers in the country. Such drivers as; Kelly Shryock, Ryan Gustin, Jason Hughes, Johnny & Stormy Scott, Rodney Sanders, Jason Krohn and the rest of the USMTS crew.

Action will kick off on Thursday, July 19 with a complete racing program feature the SLMR touring series, B Mods and Hornets plus open practice for the Super Late Models and USMTS Modifieds. For more information on the Silver Dollar Nationals, visit www.i-80speedway.com or call (402)-342-3453.
