CARTERSVILLE, GA – There was limited action due to rainouts and NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division events during Week 17 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. In the races that were run, Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA climbed back on top of the point standings with his 18th of the season.
Trosclair must have a riverboat for a hauler, as he traveled on Friday from Luling, LA on the banks of the Mississippi River upstream to Malden, MO, located in the Southeastern Bootheel of the Show-Me State, and won the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model event at Malden Speedway.
The win netted Trosclair ten points to bring his best 14-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point total to 783 driving the J. Dunning Sandblasting and Painting Special. Due to the limited NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 17 schedule, only four of the Top 10 drivers in the point standings were able to earn any points this week.
Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS did not compete in Week 17 competition, and dropped one spot down to second with 781 points in the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star, just two points behind Trosclair.
Chase Washington of Houlka, MS used his final week to earn full points by traveling to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Tuesday night to earn 44 points with a seventh-place finish in the Jerry Inmon Racing Special. That moved Washington up to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 775 points.
Ryan King of Seymour, TN finished second on Tuesday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway and netted eight points to bring his best 14-week point total up to 772 and the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings driving the Brian King Roofing Stinger.
Brett Barrett of Cleveland, MS did not compete in Week 17 competition, but remains fifth in the standings with 755 points in the Custom Spraying GRT. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS did not earn any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 17 points, and remains sixth in the standings with 730 points driving the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star.
Both Barrett and Jordan will try to capitalize on double features this Saturday night at their home track, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. The first feature will be a make-up race for a Week 16 rainout, and the second feature will be for Week 18 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points.
Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN used his last week to earn full points by taking his second win of the season on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN driving the Eagle Racing Engines Rocket. The 50-point victory brought his 14-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point total up to 717 points and the seventh spot in the standings.
Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 17 competition, and is eighth in the standings with 700 points in the Billy Riels Racing/Reynolds Motorsports GRT. Arnold still has one more week remaining to earn full points.
Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL did not earn any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points in Week 17, and is ninth in the standings with 691 points. Shaw still has two more weeks to earn full points and has the highest Weekly Point Average among the Top 20 drivers in the standings at 49.25.
Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 687 points. Bridgeman did not earn any points during Week 17 competition, but still has one more week to earn full points.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 17 action, 14-year-old Bret Holmes of Munford, AL closed in on the Top 10 in the standings with his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the Holmes II Excavating Special.
The win moved Holmes up to the 12th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 664 points, just 23 points outside the Top 10. Holmes still has two weeks to earn full points. Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN took his fourth straight win on Tuesday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway driving the CVR Race Cars Special.
Rex Berry of Huntingdon, TN drove the Reynolds Construction Rocket to a 40-point victory on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN. Kyle Bridges of Moultrie, GA took his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA driving the Bridges Auto Service Special.
