Jesse Stovall Tops Night #1 of Thunderfest at Thunderbird

Muskogee, Oklahoma (10/05/12) – Jesse Stovall led flag-to-flag on Friday night in the opening round of Thunderfest at Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, OK) to claim the $3,000 win in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model and MARS Super Late Model challenge event.

Thirty-one Super Late Models entered the event and Stovall bolted to the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 25 lap feature. While Stovall led every lap of the feature his outing would be far from easy as Will Vaught applied heavy pressure to the leader throughout the event.

On the last lap of the feature, Stovall went high in turn one to put a lap down on Enid Oklahoma driver, Cliff Morrow. Vaught noticed an opportunity as he went low tried to steal the win away from Stovall. As the trio exited turn two, Stovall would muscle his way through and pick up his 7th win of the 2012 season.

Vaught, the defending Thunderfest Champion, finished second. Jon Kirby of Russellville, AR; Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO and Justin Zeitner of LaVista, NE rounded out the top five.

GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 was won by Jon Kirby with Cole Berkenbile winning NEA Super Gas/Killer Coatings Heat Race #2. RiceTec Heat Race #3 was won by Will Vaught, and Justin Wells scored the win in Racing Head Service Heat Race #4.

Joe Driskell and Jeff Roth topped the twin Boston’s Sports Bar & Restaurants b-mains.

Thunderfest II continues on Saturday evening at Thunderbird Speedway with a a $5,000-to-win/$450-to-start, 30 lap finale. Saturday night will see gates opening at 5:00 pm with racing action at 6:30pm. Saturday night grandstand admission is $25 and free for ages fourteen and under. Pit passes both days are $35.
