Phillips back atop the MLRA leaderboard
He's the winningest driver in MLRA history with 105 series wins and a two-time former series champion, but you have to go all the way back to 1996 for his last MLRA Championship. Springfield, Missouri's Terry Phillips is back on top the MLRA point standings currently having an 11 point lead over perhaps the hottest driver in the Midwest, Tony Jackson, Jr.
Phillips has registered a number of wins at I-80 Speedway including his milestone 100th MLRA win and a win this April at Sprint Meltdown. Now he is gearing up for the Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals, where most likely he will run a Modified as well as a Super Late Model.
Tony Jackson, Jr., who tried his hand in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2010, is on a roll having won recent MLRA wins at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas and the most recent MLRA race, the Liberty 50 at Corning, Iowa. The Lebanon, Missouri driver is the current MARS Dirt Car Series points leader.
Two more Missourians are third and fourth in MLRA points. Will Vaught of Crane, Missouri is third in points. Vaught won at the Spring Meltdown in 2012. Republic, Missouri's Brad Looney, a 2011 winner at the Spring Meltdown is fourth in points.
Rounding out the top five in MLRA points is three-time and defending series champion John Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska. Anderson has a number of career wins at I-80 including two Alphabet Soup victories.
The MLRA returns to action on Saturday, July 13 at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri before heading to I-80 Speedway and the Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals on July 18-20.
The Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals kicks off on Thursday, July 18 with the SLMR/CDM Challenge, Nebraska 360 Sprints and B Mods racing, along with open practice for the SDN Super Late Models and the USMTS Modifieds.
