What will be the ultimate impact of NASCAR sanctioning a dirt race?

Like many, I was excited months ago when NASCAR announced that its Camping World Truck Series would race on the dirt at the famed Eldora Speedway during the 2013 season. I am an avid dirt racing fan and last year attended over 50 dirt late model races as a reporter for my own TennesseeRacer.com website as well as for DirtonDirt.com.

And now that the week of the Mudsummer Classic has arrived, I still look forward to seeing the trucks do battle on the Tony Stewart owned half-mile oval located near Rossburg, Ohio.

Impact? Zilch, nadda, nil, nothing.

When the NASCAR drivers started racing dirt late models in the Prelude, the sport got a bit of a bump from that in the first few years they did that. Not sure if the truck race will do much for the sport.

If TV ratings please FOX then we will see it again. Why not during Cup weeekends at Charlotte & Vegas, nice dirt tracks with big grandstands adjacent to NASCAR superspeedways?

Bristol attendance is down, maybe they might give it another shot and bring the clay back.

The one thing that slapped me upside of the head during the KING little deal on the race is, he mention one time, and one time only, that NASCAR was opening up a NEW CHAPTER. Well, not really new since they use to race dirt but new to the majority of NASCAR current fans. Makes me wonder if the is a bigger picture to this truck race.

Yes, you are right. This was the first page of a new chapter. I expect to see the trucks on dirt again, but probably not Nationwide or Cup.

I'd like to see NASCAR sanctioned Street Stocks, true stock body Mustangs & Camaros, on a reinforced stock chasis, racing on dirt. Race them on weeknights so the stars can participate. Two races at Charlotte, Bristol(if they wanna haul the clay back in), Vegas, Eldora. And race the trucks on dirt a couple more times each year.
