Low super late model car count at boyds?

They had 49 last year 30 this year .Weather was pretty good .Where was everyone? Most cars there was a a limited type car with a big 12" spoiler.Has this hurt the car counts of having true super late model cars there?I know last year at a race there. of the 24 starters 20 cars had big spoilers.maybe a lot of super guys figured out you cant hardly compete with the 12" stuff?

I think there was two big reasons. #1... many supers already in Ga. / Fl. for speedweeks. #2... Boyds is not a very good SLM track. Not trying to knock the place, limiteds can run the place on the low groove and keep up. I was there and enjoyed the racing, once it started.

I think maybe a year or to from now there will not be enough supers left for the special event races.I just don't think people are going to keep super equipment to get to race 3 or 4 times a year .It's proven big super race big fan turn out,no supers no turn out. Crates steel heads lot of cars no fan turn out !I mean people show up but no huge money making crowds.I think promoter's have been blinded and gotten lost in the idea of cheaper engines more cars and cheaper engines so they can have cheaper purses. it's trure more cars but people want true super racing.. that's my theory.I no the cost of super racing is more but Cleveland, north Georgia and boyds not having a super late model weekly class is a dooms day for dirt track racing.

SRRS has it posted on their Facebook and Twitter pages. Saturday was some of the best day time racing I've ever seen at Boyd's! Riley Hickman came from 8th to win the Supers. I don't think speedweeks had anything to do with the car count at Boyd's. The only car that probably would've came was Ray Cook. Yes the car count was down but look at $3,000 to win shows everywhere else across the country. The car counts just aren't the way they used to be. SRRS never typically draws big car counts anywhere all year anyways though so it's not really that big of a surprise. Congrats to Riley Hickman on the win and Caleb Ashby with a strong run. I wouldn't blame Eric Cooley one bit if he never ran a SRRS race the rest of the year because that was a horrible call that put him to the rear. It was clear as day that Welshan went through him. Overall it was a great weekend of racing and socializing! Hope 411 is able to get their race in Saturday.

Im glad Im not the only one that saw the Cooley spin the same way. I told the guy who traveled from Atlanta beside me the track would give Welshan his spot and put Cooley to the rear, he couldn't believe it when they did. I told him all tracks have favorites, especially track champs. 29 drove through his left rear, spun him and kept going. Guess we will see if they stay consistant with that call all year. All and all, It was a very good day race, I think all the wet weather helped, and staying cloudy all day.

He came from last to 2nd once and Kerr turned him around and they put him to the rear and he left a few years back.

We made ALL of the calls in the super late model event. Our rule is no fault caution. If your tires stop, you go to the rear. It has been this way for at least the last 4 years.

Super car counts are unpredictable. To say, we have low car counts just because we are the SRRS is stupid. Our average car count has gone up every year. For the past THREE years at BOYD'S, our average car count is 34. 34 cars per race for each year for the past 3 years...Talk about consistency. That's a low car count? I don't think that's a low car count for $3,000 to win.

Yea, we had 30 cars but man was it a good DAYTIME race.

A few years ago the banking was taken out and there went the supers..but you don't have to have supers to have a good show.

When the track was sold they redone the track and grandstands.it did not have walls and was a lot higher ,really slowed them down but now with new set ups they are getting speeds back up, but don't think supers will be back.

Well the 29 car ran the series all year last year so that answers that question. A lot of race teams are still working on getting their stuff ready and the track is prone to get slick during a day race and Open motors are at a disadvantage with the smaller spoiler. RJ used to dominate with a 525 but that was SAS. SRRS doesn't give as big a break for a 525 as SAS.
Boyds usually runs a good show and this year it was good but there are a few issues about starting late and getting the cars lined up. It looked like they didn't trust the computer on who was where. Maybe it was just me but it did seem a bit disorganized in the tower.
Still with all that said I will go back because they usually run a timely show. And it is usually a racy track as well. AT NIGHT.
