After losing his father to cancer earlier in the week, Riley Hickman came to Boyd's and took an emotional trip to victory lane.
Thirty cars would enter into the Cabin Fever 40 event, which has been sanctioned by the SRRS for the past two years. Tom Maddox would find himself atop the board after posting the fastest qualifying time which secured a spot in the SRRS Quick Dash. He drew the pole for the main event.
For the first part of the race, Tom Maddox looked like the man to beat as he had some challenges from Jeff Smith. Riley Hickman started in the eighth starting spot and was already up to fifth when a caution flew on lap 2 of the 40 lap main event.
As Tom Maddox and Jeff Smith battled into lap traffic, Riley Hickman saw his opportunity and capitalized. On the 18th lap, Hickman took the lead in lap traffic and was on his way to victory.
In the closing laps, Hickman narrowly escaped with the lead after getting into the wall and slowing down. A caution flew before the other competitors caught up to Hickman.
When the green flag dropped, Riley Hickman was able to escape from challenges from other drivers as he took the checkered flag in the $3,000 to win event.
As Hickman pulled into victory lane, he was greeted by crew members, officials, family, friends, and other drivers. Hickman's Dad was riding with him as he claimed the Cabin Fever 40 victory.
