Classic Thriller @ Screven / Carolina Clash

It did not take long to realize that a visit to Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA was long overdue for the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series and what a thriller the fans and supporters were treated to when Jordy Nipper, Brandon Overton and Dennis Franklin and the Longhorn Chassis sponsored by M&W Towing of Columbia, SC and AES Racing of Mt. Airy, NC raced in and out of traffic for nearly 30 laps, swapping the lead back and forth over the final 15 laps of the race.

It was one of the most competitive events we have ever seen as the races for position were side-by-side over the course of the entire event all the way through the field.

Brandon Overton opened up for one of the most daring moves of the race when he vaulted his Club 29 racer past Franklin on the outside of turn three to take the lead with three laps to go. However, the caution flew just moments after the racers to the starting line and Rambo was saved by the caution and resumed the lead for the final three laps.

Jordy Nipper led over the course of the first half of the race, before Rambo and Overton overhauled him while battling among the lapped cars.

In the final two laps, Overton was ready to make the move and he did coming for the white flag. However, Rambo had just enough momentum to swing up in front of Overton off turn four for the checkered.

Casey Barrow had a awesome run in the #98 super late model entry, with a solid fourth place finish. Kennie Compton, Jr was fast in the early portion of the race and settled in for fifth.

Johnny Pursley finished sixth, followed by Gib Gibbons, Doug Blashe, Scott Shirey and Jonathan Edwards rounding out the top ten.

The Carolina Clash would like to extend a big thanks to James "Big Redd" Griffin and Duane Goins and their staff for the great hospitality at their motorsports complex, which featured four motorsports events (Savannah River Dragway, Game(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) Kart Track and GeeChee Creek mud bog.

We are looking forward to a return visit to Screven in the near future.

The series moves on to Bulls Gap, Tennessee super-fast, high-banks at Volunteer Speedway next Saturday night, May 10, 2014.

The battle between the top 3 cars was amazing. People were on there feet and cheering the whole race. Overton was screaming around that place. Thanks Rambo for winning, I finally picked a winning car. I always see good racing at Screven and this one was no exception. It was nice to see the Dirt Track finish early for a change. We were able to go see some final rounds at the Drag Strip. I don't think there is any other place that for $20.00 you can see Go Karts, Drag racing ( Now IHRA sanctioned), Dirt Late Models, Mud drags, & Mud Bogg and get to go through the pits and go anywhere on the property. Not to mention some killer race track food. Wish the concession carts were running, we wanted to make a few laps.
Good Job again Redd & Screven Motorsports Complex.
