Passing not a problem at the Silver Dollar Nationals
The wide 4/10 mile I-80 Speedway has always provided drivers with plenty of room to maneuver and pass with three and four wide racing a common site, but nobody was ready for the show a relative newcomer to Dirt Late Model Racing was about to put on at the Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals in 2013. Starting 34th in a field that included the best of the best in Dirt Late Model Racing, defending USMTS Modified Champion Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa grabbed the lead on lap 47 in what had the fans in a frenzy.
Despite a tangle with a lapped car a few laps later that took Gustin out of contention, his drive to the front showed that anything is possible on the wide 4/10 mile clay oval that is I-80 Speedway. But Gustin's run wasn't the only charge to the front that night. Then there was regional star Tony Jackson, Jr. of Lebanon, Missouri who drove a smooth race coming from 14th to take the runner-up spot.
It wasn't just the Super Late Models, Rodney Sanders won by a bumper in the USMTS Modified feature the previous night but after finishing sixth in his heat, he qualified for the 35 lap USMTS Modified main through the B and started 15th. On lap 23, Sanders took the point and never looked back sweeping both USMTS features.
So if you want to see three and four wide racing and a lot of passing mark July 17, 18 & 19 on your calendar and call (402)-342-3453 for tickets to one of the best racing events of the year, the Fourth Annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway.
