Zeigler Rages from 29th Restart Position to Win UFo “Revolution 2015†at Hesston!
(Hesston, PA) Those in attendance at Hesston Speedway on Thursday night witnessed a spectacular feat of racing on an incredible clay track. Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, PA restarted in the 29th position and raced his way to win UFo “Revolution 2015†presented by Dave’s Auto Body of Woodbury PA.
On a perfect, multi-groove track, Ralph Morgan Jr. of Mount Union, PA raced from 10th to take his second consecutive Semi-Late win. Jonathan Taylor of Saltsburg, PA won the E-mod feature from 7th on the grid. Greg Moore of Defiance, PA won yet another Cadet feature from the 12th starting position and 15th starting Alex Boozel of McVeytown was declared the winner of the Hobby-Modified feature.
With 44 UFo Super Late Models in attendance, a 30 car grid started the Area 51-lap feature event. Nick (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son and Ron Delano, Jr lead the field to the green. Delano spun in in turn three on the first lap, with Zeigler, who originally started in 16th position stopping to avoid his car. Zeigler was then relegated to the 29th starting position for the restart with no laps completed.
(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son charged into the lead on the second attempt to start the race, but the caution quickly appeared again on lap one. After the restart, (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son was over taken by 5th starting Dylan Yoder on the second lap. Yoder, who was the most recent UFo winner, looked like he was going to be a force to contend with, but exited the race on lap eight giving the lead back to (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son.
With the huge field of cars on the track, the race ran green for 37 laps. (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son looked like he would be untouchable as he built up a sizeable lead. Zeigler was slicing his way through the heavy traffic and found himself in sixth place when the caution did appear on lap 38. The double file restart completely changed the outcome of the race.
On the restart, Justin Kann used his outside starting position and the heavy cushion of the track to surge into the lead. While (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son faded back, a three car race between Kann, Dan Stone and Zeigler ensued with Stone taking the point on lap 41. Stone and Zeigler then began to battle for the lead with Zeigler coming out on top on lap 45. The two made contact on the front straight turning Zeigler sideways but Zeigler was able to save it and drive on to the $4,000 win.
Stone followed in second. Jerry Bard over took Kann on lap 45 also with the two finishing third and fourth. Andy Haus, who drew one of the worst pills of the night, advanced from 13th to finish 5th. (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son crossed the line in sixth. Tim Smith, Jr. drew the next-to-last pill for the heat races and rallied from his 28th starting position to finish seventh. 21st starting Keith Jackson, who won the first UFo event of 2015 at Hesston finished eight with Dan Angelicchio and 20th starting Mike Lupfer rounding out the top ten.
Heat race wins for the large UFo Super Late Model field went to Delano, Stone, Micheal Altobelli, Jr, Bard and (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son. Jackson and Lupfer spilt the consolation wins.
Ralph Morgan, Jr. won his second consecutive Semi-Late feature from his required 10th place starting positon. Teammates Rance Garlock and Dillon Stake lead the field to green. Stake officially lead on the first lap before Garlock was scored the leader, but the two raced an absolute side-by-side battle over the first ten laps before Garlock took full control.
On a double file restart, Dave Leidy overtook Garlock on lap 16 and soon a spectacular three car battle started between Leidy, Garlock and Morgan. Garlock went back into the lead on lap 19. Twice, the trio went three-wide for the lead coming off turn 4 with Morgan finally coming out on top on lap 23 with a daring pass through the middle.
Morgan lead the remaining laps to win the $1,000 first prize. Seventh starting Robbie Black and Eric Irvin passed Leidy on lap 28 to take second and third with Leidy finishing fourth. Kenny Yoder finished fifth with 21st starting Devin Frey crossing the line in sixth. 19th starting Dan Sollers, 22nd starting Paul Kot, 14th starting Gage Whitsel and 24th starting Joe Kot rounded out the top ten. Morgan also won his heat race from an 11th place staring positon, with Irvin winning the other hear race.
The LaSalle’s Engine & Chassis E-mods made their second appearance of 2015 with Jonathan Taylor claiming the $800 first prize. Brian Maxey lead the first lap of the 25 lap race before Taylor quickly advanced from seventh to take control. Taylor sped away from the field to win the $800 first prize. Sixth starting Gary Long of Newport News, VA outraced Josh Cramer with the two finishing second and third. Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD and Brian Maxey of King George, VA, finished fourth and fifth. Rich Goodman, Bob Garvey, Alyssa Rowe, Darren Tarabori with a V6 motor and Tim Schulte rounded out the field. Taylor also won the heat race.
Greg Moore charged from his required 12th place starting position to win the 25 lap Cadet feature and $575. Mike Desch led the first ten laps before Moore moved into the lead and paced the remaining distance. Desch had his best finish of the season by crossing the line in second with eigth starting Ryan Sager and ninth staring Cris Edwards finishing third and fourth. Devin Weyandt, 15th starting Tom Wakefield, 14th starting Chris Anderson, Chad Parks, Ridge Bookwalter and Jesse Snyder rounded out the top ten.
After several disqualifications, 15th starting Alex Boozel was declared the winner of the Freedom Powersports Hobby-Modified 20 lap feature. Boozel was awarded $300 for his win. Troy Eckenrode lead the first ten laps in a four-car race for the point between himself, Carl Miller, Amber Mills and Mike Duck. Miller took control on lap 11 but then passed on the next lap by Amber Mills, who lead the remaining laps with Duck following. Boozel crossed the line in third.
Post race inspection found infractions on Mills car with Duck refusing tech, moving Boozel to the winner’s podium. Miller was advance to second. Eckerode was scored fifth but was light at the scales moving 17th starting Shawn Shoemaker to third. Mike Benton and Ben Krause finished fourth and fifth in the final rundown. Zach Price, 16th starting Curtis Guyer, Kadden Smith, Denny Norris and Preston Imler rounded out the top ten.
