You'll hear that quote at the end of this little 3-minute clip that covers the last 5 laps of last year's Doug Murphrey Memorial. The players are Phillips in #75 of course, 3 Kelly Shryock, 12 Jason Hughes, 16 Chris Henigan and 12 Jason Ingalls.
In addition to it being the best finish ever at a DMM, here's some other thoughts...
-- First, how 'bout that racing! After 3 nights of hot laps & competition on that surface & at the first of June even plus over 90 Mods & 180 total cars for the last 2 nights, you still end up with a show like that at the end of a 50-lap feature at Ark-La-Tex Speedway! We did get some help from a couple late race cautions that bunched the field. Before that, the cars had strung out and it appeared Shryock would cruise to his first DMM win but racing luck bit him, when just the third caution of the race came out on lap 45 and then the 4th one followed on lap 47 and the rest like they say.... is history!
-- What struck me next is this...replace that #16 with year's #16 and Skyrocket gets the win alright, only it's Henigan pulling into victory lane. Challengers better get their cars working on the bottom the way Chris has his working in the low groove.
-- And finally... counting out IRP Chassis (Ingalls Racing Products) would be a huge mistake. Mr. where-did-he-come-from there...Ingalls...ran 2nd in the Tootsie Smith Memorial in 2011 before winning that one last year. That was a solid top 5 he had last year in the DMM with Chris Brown in Shryock's team car finishing behind him in 6th. Everyone's well aware of Henigan's USMTS win here in March but the next night, Jason finished 4th in the same crowd at Boothill. There are some good running IRPs this year -- David Winslet, Dennie Gieber, Scott Hushelpeck & more -- that just might finish well in the 2013 version of the Doug Murphrey Memorial.
And I think that's just the tip of the iceburg as far as possibilities go this year so.... Don't miss it!!!

2013 Doug Murphrey Memorial Modified Format:
· Draw twice for heat race starting position. Each driver will run two heat races.
· Passing point heats (late sign-ins will receive finishing position points but no passing points for the first heat).
· All drivers will run a qualifying A feature.
· A qualifiers lined up by combined passing points (passing point ties broken by the draw for the first heat).
· The top 20 from the A qualifiers (heads-up) will advance to the A Main.
· The A Main will be lined-up heads up from the A qualifier finishes.
· The 21st and 22nd starting positions will go to the winner and second place finisher of the last chance race. The top 10 in passing points not advancing to the A Main from the qualifiers will run this last chance race (passing point ties will be broken by the draw for the first heat).
· The 23rd starting position will go to the winner of the “lucky draw†last chance race. This race will start 8 drivers that will be drawn from the non-qualified drivers.
· The 24th starting position will be drawn from the non-qualifiers (non-qualifiers must bring their ticket to the tech shed at intermission and put it in the draw bucket).
· The 25th starting position will be auctioned off to the highest bidder immediately following the draw.
Friday: Draw and run two passing point heat races.
Saturday: All drivers will run an A qualifier with the top 20 locked into the A Main (heads-up). The top 10 drivers in passing points that did not make the A Main will run a last chance race with the top 2 advancing to the A Main. At intermission we will draw for the 24th starting position and then draw 8 drivers to run a “lucky draw†last chance race with the winner advancing to the A Main. The 25th starting position will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
