The time saved cutting tire will be used to mount new ones. You can almost guarantee that there will be brand new rubber on every time you hit the track, except hot laps maybe. It will cost more period. I guess you gotta try it sometime to see how it goes, but I think after its over we're gonna hear some gripes, not from Hoosier of course.

If you are planning to race at the World 100 and decide not to because of the cost of a new set of tires....you probably shouldn't be racing it in the first place. Just my opinion.

Old Fan, I enjoy cutting my tires, but it is crazy time consuming. The problem with a major rule change like this mid season is it just toasted a trailer load of tires for some guys. Many teams have new tires that have not been ran or have very low laps in the trailer that all have some sort of cutting on them, now those tires are not useable for this event and you must go buy all new.

Again if the goal was anything other than selling more tires they would mandate a single tire nationwide that you cannot cut or groove, and give a heads up of the off season. If you have a heads up you can use up what you have, and start fresh next season with non-cut tires. Then save the time during the week.

Final point, this has NOTHING to do with tire prep. The lucas rule kept somebody form prepping, this just says you cannot needle or sipe to get it in easier. Check out kart tires, most of them are slick and prepped. They still need to do tire testing, but then does that tested tire become illegal since it is now grooved?

All good points. I agree completely that hoosier stands to benefit from all this tire rule changing, but at the end of the day, it's the racers/crews that caused tires to fail lab tests. Sometimes us racers are our own worst enemy. It's a difficult deal when rules are not able to be easily enforced at the racetrack. I sure wouldn't want to be the sanctioning body trying to stop the tire doping and keep the cost down for the racers.
I'm sure that, like every other UMP sanctioned track in the country, Eldora made the choice of what tires are allowed in this case. UMP has certain tires listed in the rulebook and the track decides which tires they want to allow. They can allow all of them or as few as one of them.

As a guy directly involved in the sport at the higher level, what do you think the answer is to all this? Personally, I think the sanctioning bodies and the tracks have been backed into a corner.

Oh please! He said the process sucked and that changes were coming. Guess what? There are no changes to the tire testing process. They are still collecting samples the same way and sending them to the same lab as before, no change to the process. Had he said they were going to adopt DIFFERENT TIRE RULES, myself and alot of others would have been more apt to agree with him, but that's not what he said. He said the PROCESS of testing was FLAWED...... changing what tires are allowed and what prep can be done is not a change to the tire testing procedure.

You may want to go back and re read what I said.........no doubt the collection process is suspect, but also the custodial process of who has the tires and what trail they follow,what does or does not make the tire hot( i.e. Simp,e green wd 40) etc......

There were many different things discussed , not just what you would have liked to have heard.

this is a great attitude to take, roll eyes, sh!t on the less economically fortunate, that would just love to be able to just participate. Thats the great thing about this sport, every one does not get a trophy, but to some, just showing up and participating is trophy enough. IF this is tony stewart, maybe you could start a welfare fund to help these less fortunate out with this problem.........JMO.....

It is a 3 day format. With the requirement of 20s, A guy could easily need 6 new tires a night for Thursday and Friday. Then 6 more for prelim action on Sat.

That is $2700 in tires and you haven't even made the show yet.

I like seeing higher car counts. I am just saying that it really doesn't make sense for a lot of drivers who are really strapped for $$$$ to show up for the World 100 for multiple reasons other than just tires. Those days of 100+ car counts with small teams consistently showing up are gone.

Hard to believe the Fat Cats at Hoosier can't develop a dirt tire that meets the criteria of the racer right off the truck. If race teams spend the extra time cutting, roughing up the tires and paying the high cost, it's time for these series to allow other tire manufactures an opportunity to compete.

None of what they are doing yet is THE answer......the fact they are changing it up and trying different approaches speaks volumes though.

The powers that be know there is a problem all the way around......they are trying to correct and get a handle on it......it will be a rocky road until they come up with something consistent and fair......it's not a one answer overnight fix, unless that answer is just to go outlaw on the tire rule.

So far , and like always......Lucas is ahead of the curve.

All obvious points, that seemed to be missed by a few Basementeers and a certain steak sauce producer.
