This might help you a bit.
Guys I consider national travelers or guys who have / do get out and travel around quit a bit (Zeigler, McDowell, Mars, Chris Simpson) and or have a vast amount of experience on the national scene (Wendell Wallace, Terry Phillips) or regularly make the big shows but don't always have the best finishes.

Guys I would consider a Dark horse in their respective areas of the U.S. where they race when a national series comes to the area and has a decent chance to win or have a good finish - Ferguson, Tim Dohm, Zeigler, Satterlee, Conley Clan, Hawkins bros., Linville, Boggs, Chr. Simpson, Tony Jackson Jr., Terry Phillips, Dennis Franklin, Wendell Wallace, Matt Miller, Jeep Van Wormer, Jason Jameson, ect...

It is an opinion and will vary from person to person. I see a dark horse as anyone who doesn't travel with WoO and Lucas, plus a few others (Marlar, McDowell, Madden, Pierce). Is Chris Ferguson really a dark horse? Correct me if I am wrong... but doesn't he hold the track record at Eldora?
