I've heard that preached that for yrs! Fri traffic is just too brutal to make it to Potomac on Fridays for most teams... I've been to a bunch of tracks throughout the mid-Atlantic, and none are racier than Potomac... That being said, I'd support Winchester on Friday, and H-town on Sunday afternoon as much as possible...I don't always post on 4m.. But when I do, I'm usually sitting on the crapper!!

I would still be surprised if Gunter is running Potomac next season based on everything I have heard - of course only rumors same for everyone else. But I've heard the same rumor from several different people who are heavily involved with racing in the area.
Thanks,
Jeff.

A track in operation is better than a track that is defunct. I don't see any argument there, not even by 4m standards.

It is definitely a tough argument, RK seems to be doing better this year -- but I believe this argument occurred last year right around the time when a driver wrecked and there was no fire crew on site and around the same time there was some type of scandal for the payout of a big race Kyle Hardy won as well. If a track is going to be run like that and potentially get someone killed, then sadly it probably is better if the gates don't open. With that said, it does seem like the track is doing a little bit better now so good on them.Originally posted by th3Swami View PostA track in operation is better than a track that is defunct. Winchester isnt too bad but under the bleachers is an eye sore and wasted space. It looks alot better than it use to. Potomac definitely needs some work as far as the infield and definitely the grandstands! My grandparents who have been going since the 70s maybe 60s (cant remember off the top of my head) still like to go occasionally and getting up and down them can be a pain. I look at them now and wonder how i ever ran up and down them as a kid without seriously injuring myself. Plus the paint is so faded on the "walk ways" to get up and down that people end up sitting in them. Isnt much of an issue except for 4th of July and the Outlaw shows when the stands are crowded, but you have to zig zag your way thru, which isnt easy for anyone. Especially with how busy we all keep the beer stand and bathrooms

Jlacey thanks for the updates. I have had plans attend a race at Potomac a few times over the last few years, but the logistics of getting there have swayed me. It really is in a tough location for most folks living north of Baltimore.
It is hard to justify putting money into capital improvements of a racetrack when you are only a promoter and not the owner. I know it is only a rumor at this point, but I am excited with the prospect of Gunter buying Hagerstown. If the rumors do prove true, I hope he does spend the money upgrading both Winchester & Hagerstown. Overall, Hagerstown is still in pretty good shape facility wise, but the first thing I would do would be to put down new clay. I think having one owner of both trucks would help solidify the Mid-Atlantic region for DLM racing. If the fans see capital improvements being made to a track, they tend to support the owner for his efforts ( Look at Susquehanna & Port Royal Speedways as examples)

Yeah its hard trying to fight the traffic to make it down on a Friday night. Potomacs Outlaw show 2 years ago i left Baltimore around 230 and didnt make it to the track until warmups were starting at 7. Supposedly there was some bad accident on 301 that backed us up that bad but its usually a lil under a 2 hour drive. I need to do the opposite and get back up to Hagerstown again. I can't remember how long it's been.
You hit it right on the money with promoting but not owning the track. Weve been saying for years that someone needs to buy this place and put a lil work into it. Unfortunately like I said earlier, the family that owns it also owns the motocross next doors and won't sell.

Big thing here will be NEW CLAY at Htown.. Still decent on occasion thanks to mother nature, but new clay has been needed for 20 years. Hope this happens..

Any information..... or is the sale just an infamous 4M rumor?. The Plessinger family has owned the place for a long time, that being said I think a sale with the proper influx of capital improvements would help "MAKE HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY GREAT AGAIN"

I'm new here and I don't have any information on the purchase of H-town but i did find this online. Seems to me we won't have to worry about racing at Winchester anymore if the Winchester beltway goes in...http://www.co.frederick.va.us/home/showdocument?id=9796

It does not mention anything about the Speedway in that article. I can't exactly pinpoint the location of the track but does not seem like it would be effected to the point of not racing anymore. Of course I've only ever been to Winchester a handful of times.Originally posted by _Got_Dirt View PostI'm new here and I don't have any information on the purchase of H-town but i did find this online.
