When Eldora officials knew the driver had died, the least they could have done is have a moment of silence for the man and his family. I understand it is the World 100. Canceling or postponing would be difficult, but to go on as if nothing happened is pretty disrespectful. Again this is my opinion. I remember when Jim Dunn died at Paducah back in the 80's, they stopped the show. Again, I understand it's the World 100...the biggest event of them all. But someone died. Not like he just got badly injured and had to be taken to hospital. The man DIED. Maybe I'm wrong and Eldora made an announcement during the event. I didn't watch it. I wasn't there. If they did, my apologies.

I'm not sure what they should have done but to go on with the show like nothing happened is just wrong and cold hearted. -
Somewhere I seen that the 4 wide was for him.. but they do that ever race, if you did not tell the fans thats was for him dieing means nothing...So far I have found no one that was at the race that was told he die at the race till it was over...Comment

It's been said before, and actually I think some family had posted on Facebook, but the track didn't make any announcement in order to let the family be notified and be sure they were taken care of before announcing anything.Originally posted by DarrellGoode View Post

Its easy to Sunday morning quarterback it, and it does seem a little harsh to just keep racing like nothing happened, but im sure the officials were totally freaking out behind the scenes and didnt know what to do for a few minutes. You dont want a knee jerk reaction to make things even worse. Maybe there was reason to chill and let it all go on. Notification of familly is one thing that comes to mind
Im sure the track will do something to honor the driver killed. Give them a minute to let their heads clear, get with the family, and have a memorial of some kind. Its been less than 24 hours.Comment

When the news media reports an accident where someone is killed,the names are never published until all of the family has been notified. Same difference at Eldora.

They announced right after Bobby had left the stage what had happened to Shane. I thought they handled it pretty well considering he had family members at the track. His mother works in one of the concession lines, and others were still in the stands. It's a double edge sword, and neither way is good. The rumor spread fast between the teams right before feature that he had passed.Comment

I'll have to agree with that. That's why you hear on the news that they "aren't releasing names" until family is notified. Sometimes 12-48 hrs. Either way it's a tough decision for Eldora officials. They handled it the only right way they could you cant cancel an event not knowing he passed it plainly states he died at the hospital and the coroner pronounced him dead after he arrived at hospital he still had vital signs at track or they wouldnt have stuck him with i.vs it wouldve almost been impossible to cancel the event fans from half the country plus 2 other countries in attendance probably have the fans there would have vandalised eldora before sunlight sunday thats just the kinda world we live in all the drivers in dirt late models know each other in some way and they will all tell you they know when they get in that racecar its 50% Chance they wont get back out and if they dont get out they would want the event ran as scheduled just because they respect each other in a racing state of mindComment
