Late Model Driver Brian Shirley Back In A Midget At Du Quoin

Looks like dirt late model driver Brian Shirley from Chatham, Illinois will opt to race a midget at Du Quoin on December 17th. Brian is shown on the entry list to be the driver of the #3s, one of the 2 Jim Newman midgets currently entered in the Knepper 55 USAC National Midget event in The Southern Illinois Center on the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Illinois on the Saturday before Christmas Eve.

The Knepper 55 event might be a tune up for Brian in anticipation of The Chili Bowl out in Tulsa, OK which is just a little over 3 weeks following the Du Quoin show.

Brian is one of 43 cars currently entered in The Knepper 55, and that total will most likely go higher as the even draws near.

The entry list for the December 17th Junior Knepper 55 has topped 70 cars. The list stands at 73 at this point.

Some heavy hitters from different forms of racing have been added to the list of drivers who'll be at Du Quoin.

In addition to late model star Brian Shirley 9 time Knoxville Nationals Champion and 8 time World of Outlaw's Series Champion Donnie Schatz, the 2016 Knoxville Nationals Champion Jason Johnson, NASCAR regulars Justin Allgaier and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., ARCA Champion Chase Briscoe and American Le Mans Series Champion Chris Dyson all will be among those driving the 73 cars already entered.

Thanks for passing that along, Ricky. It is a bit odd that he'd be listed on the Du Quoin entries but at the same time telling you he'll be at St. Louis.

Well might sound a little selfish to them that's going to Duquoin but I'm going to the Dome and I hope Shirley is there

Nah, it's not selfish at all. If Shirley is at Du Quoin we'll be keeping an eye on him just because he's a local guy and we see him race many times throughout the year. If he's at St. Louis we'll be hoping he does well there, too.

There are plenty of high profile drivers entered at Du Quoin. More than enough to go around so one local guy more or less isn't going to make too much difference.

Although, I must say Shirley has been looking much better in a midget the last couple of times he's driven one. Early on he was a lost ball in the tall weeds in reference to his midget exploits.

We also hope he's able to race at The Chili Bowl again this year!
