I don't really know.......cost wise putting it down on top seems like a no brainer.

Our local track, a high banked half mile, put dirt on top of the asphalt and we raced on it like that for years. Only problems were you couldn't get much moisture in the track as it would run down the banking when it hit the asphalt, therefore the track often took rubber, but it was always slick and smooth. The track was sold about 3 years ago and the new owners removed the dirt, ripped up the old asphalt and put the dirt back down. The problem we have had since then is the track has been much more inconsistent. Either they under water and it turns into a dust bowl or it gets rough as heck. Also we now have a lot of small rocks and chunks of asphalt in the dirt. That being said, I'm not sure which is better. I liked our track with the dirt on top, but when it took rubber it was a train race around the outside wall and ate tires.

It's nice to see a racetrack back in action, but the Super Late Model cars counts are not too robust at Wayne County or Hilltop, and with Attica right up the road, and Atomic a little down the road, where are the cars going to come from? And what night will they be racing?
