Nick Hoffman (Modified) had an interesting recap of his Summer Nationals experience, as shared on Ryan Unzicker's Facebook page:
The hell tour is finally over. A whole month of racing basically every single day. It felt like it lasted forever but now looking back it all went so quick. Built a brand new car in 9 working days and raced it for a whole month. A basic breakdown of what goes on every day is travel, unload, sweat your ass off, maintenance car, tires, race, tear (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) up, finish race, fix tore up (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word), load, find a walmart and stake and shake, sleep. Then occasionally we will get a rainout which we went to ride go karts, bowl, and hangout with friends. Its a grueling month of racing but I am ready to start it all over again next year. We did basically the entire tour just my dad and I. We have a pretty good game plan every day of what needs to be done and we make sure its done right. He drove basically every mile of the entire tour. So I wanted to do a stats sheet on what all went on during the last month.

25 races ran
5 DNF. 1 while leading last night, 1 while running 2nd Thursday night, 1 while starting on the front row (Quincy)
5331 miles in the hauler from Mooresville NC through the whole tour and back to Mooresville

$1633 in fuel cost at 2.45 a gallon
Not counting diesel in the generator
52 tires bought
$6240 at 120 per tire
average 7 gal race fuel used per night
$1400 at 8 bucks a gallon
Pit passes were 30 to 40 every night so we will average at 35
$1750 for 2 people
Total- $11,023
This isn't counting any tore up equipment, the 3 trailer tires we blew, food in the truck, 100 stake and shake visits and a couple 12 packs of Twisted Teas.
Moral of this story is- It doesn't matter what any of this stuff costs. If there is something you really want to go out and do then do it. We saved enough money to be able to go out and run an entire month of racing and hope we make enough money to cover it, but this was something me and dad wanted todo together. We won races, made friends, and most of all made memories that will last a lifetime which is more important than any dollar figure. You can die tomorrow but what you do today is what really matters.

Thanks to the Pierce family for letting us use their shop multiple times on the road, also the rest of our traveling circus for a month The Gundaker's, Gardner's and also the Unzicker's.
