This is something that plagues many of the finest crown jewel races. Many do,indeed pull off as there isn't any point in tearing more equipment up finishing 11th as opposed to 25th. Halfway through a race, you usually know whether or not you have a car that can compete for a top 10.

If it is a televised race you should probably keep racing and hope for the best. I never understood the logic for not finishing when your in a big show. You got the car, the hauler, the pit crew, the hotels, the tires, the tools, the race gas, the two days of travel, etc. etc. and you made the show, and now your going to worry about wearing out the car. If you have 7,000 + spectators watching the race you got to stay in it to win it!

If you race for a living, throwing bad money after good isn't going to keep the lights on very long. If you're interested in getting your sponsors some exposure on TV, pulling off the track might be the only way you end up on camera if you're running that far back. Heck, maybe someone with a camera will come over and ask you some stupid questions and then go to the cut-away car and explain something wrong.

Why would you need a hotel if you have the hauler? Which I'm assuming is a toter.

Only way to stop drivers from pulling off is to pay each position more than the spot behind it.

If 14th pays the same as 28th, why would you spend the $$ over the last 50 laps to move up from the tail to 15th??

Yeah, I finished 10 spots ahead of you, but we got paid the same. I beat you on the track, but you pulled out the gate with an extra grand in your pocket b/c you parked it 50 laps early.
It's a flawed system, but there's only so much prize $ available. Can't pay the last guy $800 to start.

what is bad is up till a couple of years ago it payed 50000 to win, 10000 for second and 6000 for third. It's almost like the show me, for a race the is at the "diamond of dirt tracks", it has still yet to pay anything close to what it did when it was at west plains, if I remember correctly the last race played 45000 to win and 4500 for 24th, if continued this year it would have been 53000 to win and 5300 to start which is more that what i think the 6th place finisher got this year.

Why the heck would you cut start pay to $2,000. Still too top heavy; just more top covered. Cutting start pay will not bring more cars. Will guys run longer in the 100 lapper itself... I still say only maybe.
I just think there would be a better way to spread it out.
