question about Portsmouth

Since I have to work World 100 weekend, im thinking about bringing the wife with me to Portsmouth for the lucas oil race on 9/2.

with that said, can I get thoughts on how good the track/racing is, and is there anything to do around that town? thinking about making a weekend of it if possible.. but haven't had much luck finding anything to do before or after the track.

Its a 6 hr drive, so im not really wanting to "figure it out" once I get there.

The racing is hit or miss, the facilities are very nice.

I recommend visiting the scioto ribber one of my fav eateries. Also Portsmouth brewing company is very close to the track

X2 on the Ribber and the brewery. The brewery has a very good ribeye off the gril on race day. Our annual pre-race destination.

Take her down and see the floodwall. It is about half a mile long and has 20 foot high murals painted on it depicting the heritage of Portsmouth.

We have that same kind of deal here in Paducah,Ky Bloomerdirtking lol.

It is kind of weird how much Paducah and Portsmouth mirror each other as cities.. relatively small towns, both on the river with painted murial floodwalls, DOE plants, dirt tracks (even though ours is closed down this year..)

Just play on your cell phones during down time, like much of the public does. The track is a great track when cut and watered well so it doesn't go dryslick.

the track is in a water basin... with that said, like any DIRT race track its hit or miss. Go 5-6 X's a year never been disappointed.
Something to do, if you like American Indian stuff. there is a really nice Indian burial grounds less then a 1 hr away, right off route 73 ( windy ole road, but u catch it right in P-town and it takes u to the site) its called 'Serpent Mound' and YES check out the murals along the river on the flood wall, a pictorial history of P-town!

The old Southern Ohio Speedway is about a dozen miles or less north of PRP. Might be worth taking a drive to, to see it. I take it, that it is closed this season though for racing.

Chillicothe has the easyriders motorcycle rodeo that weekend if you like that kind of thing. It's a huge event, so are some of the ta ta's that you will see!

You see more things there that you don't want to see, than you do want see. I've seen things there that could scar a man for like lol

I think I saw the 8th wonder of the world over there one night! I live close enough that I hear all the music so I like to stop by and make sure everything is going O K.

Just drove by SOS this evening. It's dead and gone with a herd of cows on it.

Anyway, if you like to fish bring some poles the track is at the junction of the scioto river and Ohio river. Brewery, ribber, floodwall, stay out of the parts of town that look bad and you'll be fine. PRP is actually in west Portsmouth, a different township then PTown.

The buckeye dairy bar is the bomb diggity and Shawnee state Forrest is right up the road with several thousand acres of public land and trails
