Bloomquist said in the post race write up they were planning to pit around lap 40. Was any one else? Was this a strategic move because of it being a day race? It's definitely a gamble depending on where your running at the time...

Starting in the back was a HUGE advantage today, Bloomquist was able to pit around 1/2 way because he had nothing to lose with already being in the back but if you are McCreadie or Richards running 1st and 2nd you never would pit at the point, you run it until it blows.

I guess Erb was planning to make a early pit stop at some point if there was a caution also I read.

If you race at Batesville during the daytime for 100 laps and don't plan on at least one pit stop for rears, just keep it in the trailer. Rettig showed them all what tires will do for you, yet some still waited till it was too late. Actually a bit surprised bloomers held up as he got them pretty early.

Pearson, or Peterson Jr as they had him listed on scroll bar made it til the red flag before he had a flat and ran in the top 5 or 6.

What was the deal with some cars having partial roofs on them? I noticed both Moyers and Richards at least had mini-roofs that were atop the roll cage. Doesn't that sort of defeat the "Topless" part of the equation?

The first time I noticed that was around 2010 or so, when they ran the Jackson topless and it was during the day. Some may do it to make sure their arms don't come out the top of the cage during a rollover, glare could be another reason.

Eldora is a prestige event The rest of them have a poor pay out for position 6 on back, which leads them to cut travel distance. Run close to home and cut expenses. Even if you had a large starting pay, only 24 to 30 will collect it. If your in doubt, why gamble that travel money. The bottom line is, Racers made the cars too expensive and the events don't want to pay the bill.

Hoosier made money on Sunday. I can't believe they didn't change the tire rule for a day race, but that is 20/20 hindsight.

In my part of the country.... you have to have a tire rule to have a chance at getting locals. Lucas comes out this way, tire rule. WoO comes out this way, tire rule.

Open tires only work where they already have open tires.

Wide bore motors and the fact that guys are racing smarter are contributing to lower counts.

I can't argue against you, also good points, but I will say without the tire rule at least 10 less cars...at least. I know it can seem like a small part of the budget, and compared to the engine it is, but it is still a determining factor in local/regional cars showing up.
