We've all seen a driver have to give back a position when a caution comes out just after he has completed his pass. But at what point is a lap actually official?
When should a lap be scored as official following a caution?

To me it should how you cross back under the yellow. If you just pass someone before yellow and got back to the line first, You should keep that position. It sucks to see someone battle a good blocker for 5-10+ laps. They finally pass them and then yellow comes out and they have give up that position they finally got.

If the track uses transponders to score the race it's pretty simple. If the leader finished the lap, that lap counted, but only for those cars that crossed the line before the yellow.
Everyone else reverts back to the last completed lap since they didn't make it to the start/finish line prior to the yellow.
Makes it quick and easy to determine the line-up as well so not as many caution laps.

I think race monitor had bobby leading the lap before the yellow...but as the man above said lucas does leader plus 3 if thats how they were scoring im not totally sure 5 cars crossed the line before the yellow...so in that case they would revert back to the lap before in which case Moyer was leading...so who knows but that had no bearing on the outcome of the race...

Everyone is supposed to complete a lap or the leader gets his lap back even if passed. I hate that rule and have for ever. Sometimes the leader gets passed or run down, then they do not make it back to the flag stand before a wreck somewhere on the track. The guy who made a great pass and often a winning one, has to give the lead back. Then the tires cool down and the guy who inherited the lead back goes on and wins. I always thought these issues should be an an individual basis with a designated duo or trio of judges for these type of situations. Especially at added purse races. Will it ever happen????? Probably not. I have been watching this for 65 years. LOL
