What can a track do to earn back your business when they've done you wrong?

Tracks across the country make mistakes (some purposeful) and run off fans. Some can run off a bunch of fans with one bad decision after another. If the ownership/mamagement stays the same, what can they do to earn back your business? This came up in a discussion over the weekend and I was curious to hear what fans have to say on the subject.

I know one that has ran so many fans and racers off that there is nothing he can do to get them back. Sucks for west central Indiana

What a track did around me when they took over new ownership and reconfigured the track, which didn't produce the best racing simply because so much dirt was added right before the season started. So one weekly night they kept running the track in and the show didn't even get started until after 9pm not exactly sure when it ended but it was really late. So they gave everyone in the stands a free admission to the first of two nights of their 50k to win modified show.

I think it'd be the same as with most any business: Be open, fair, and honest. There are always going to be ups and downs. Be open to criticism (at least the constructive kind), if you made a wrong do your best to make it right (won't always happen), and part of being honest....admit a mistake when you made one.

I'm reminded of Dimone from Fast Times at Ridgemont High: No matter where you are, act like this is the place to be, "Isn't this great!"

So my daily rant, somewhat on topic (at least to my "honest" point): A track "by me" had a SLM special this past weekend. On their Facebook page (Yes, where would we be without Facebook???), a fan asked how many cars were there. Another fan replied 23, and the track was nice enough to respond in correction, stating "24!" (tooting their own horn so to speak). But what the track deleted was another fan pointing out that they only started 18 cars in the feature. That was a fact, not an opinion. You only started 18 cars. So why hide it by deleting the comment? Were they embarrassed somehow? Fairbury had 25 cars show up for a weekly show last week and started all 25, citing the great sponsors (and they are much appreciated) that make something as such possible.

Just be honest about things. If you made a business decision and started fewer cars, so be it. Stand up for your decisions, but by all means, at least own up to them.

I have two tracks that are now on my $hit list, not sure what they can do to get me back maybe when the people that wronged me are gone. Just like a restaurant when I get bad food, I don't complain to management I just don't go back.

Several years ago just before Independence Day we made the 3 hour trip one way over to Terre Haute for The Sumar Classic USAC Silver Crown 100 lapper. For reasons never disclosed they scheduled the event as an afternoon show. Long story short the track was so dusty that they red flagged the race after only 1/2 lap and totally cancelled the event. Thomas Meseraull got crossed up and ended up on his side on the backstretch and another car hit him in the cage. Thankfully T-Mez was okay.

It was announced before we left the stands that our tickets would be honored for Indiana Sprint Week which was less than 2 weeks later and everyone who had a ticket for the Sumar would also be given an Indiana Sprint Week T-shirt of their choice.

The promoter lost us and won us back, basically within a matter of less than an hour. They were hugely apologetic and made a lot of pissed off people happy again with the T-shirt give-away.

Really. So if you don't go back then what do you do. People think the track ownership and managemental owe them something. They screwed me because they didn't do what I wanted, so screw them I am not going back. Well get in your car and drive 100 miles to your next track. O don't forget to bitch about that new track you go to on social media. You go to your HOME track for a reason. Get over yourself and enjoy the racing.

Be glad you have a local track to. There are a lot of people that no longer have them and have to travel a long way to watch, or race.
                          No one is perfect.
Track prep is a science, so if it gets messed up every know and again... hopefully they learned from their mistakes.

Have fun!!! That's why we all do it.
Too many entitled people in this world, remember there are other people trying to enjoy the same show as you so set your a$$ in a seat.

                          Enough of my ranting.

Peoria and Lincoln have both dropped the price for the end of the year. If I remember right, a $Lincoln$ will get you in at Lincoln this Sunday
