If I could see conclusive a/b testing that showed wrapped tires are faster ok....otherwise it seems silly that you'd want to keep the oil on your tires.... don't we use oil dry to get rid of the oil on a track?

Ever notice when someone blows an engine the drivers will run through the oil on purpose? And no a/b test needed to know it prevents oxidation of the rubber, which usually begins with the light hydrocarbons evaporating. Also, it's nice to wrap them before rolling through tech so you don't have to muddy a set of tires!Originally posted by Krooser View PostIf I could see conclusive a/b testing that showed wrapped tires are faster ok....otherwise it seems silly that you'd want to keep the oil on your tires.... don't we use oil dry to get rid of the oil on a track? Tires drying out isn't a theory, just ask Hoosier. Wrapping DLM tires to minimize drying is fairly new, but as competition gets tighter every advantage must be utilized. The oils are IN the rubber and contribute to the compounds intended attributes, wrapping them after grinding/buffing keeps them optimally fresh. Will it make difference between winning loosing? Depends.Originally posted by Krooser View PostIf I could see conclusive a/b testing that showed wrapped tires are faster ok....otherwise it seems silly that you'd want to keep the oil on your tires.... don't we use oil dry to get rid of the oil on a track?

I understand the theory but, at my age, you gotta prove it. Way too much hocus pocus goes on with tires... wastes time and money.... cutting... siping... grooving... wrapping. Wouldn't a guys time be better spent hunting sponsors, doing PR stuff trying to help the sport, displaying your car at your sponsors business?
40 years ago we bought three new tires a year... we ran two or three times per week. We ran the same LF for 4 years. I know I'm an old b#stard and things have changed but have they changed for the better?

I know, use to buy asphalt firestone take offs, then groove and race, for a long time. UDLMC outlawed personal engenuity in favor of making everyone purchase tech and parts. It actually a very Liberal/Progressive way of thinking. I saw one guy say it was the right thing to do because, "Rumley wouldn't share". WTH? DLM is officially "Snowflake PC" all we need now are safe zones and to outlaw asking officials questions...Originally posted by Krooser View PostI understand the theory but, at my age, you gotta prove it. Krooser,
Here's a simple test you can do to see for yourself.
1) Grind 2 tires on a Sunday
2) Wrap one tire
3) on Friday unwrap the wrapped tire and compare the two.
You should feel that the one that was wrapped feels like it was just ground and the one that wasn't wrapped will be dry and need to be ground again.

I agree with this to prove a point ... butOriginally posted by cjsracing View PostKrooser,

You have to have a set of tires that are not Already dry or dry rotten. Cannot perform test on 20 year old tires.
In Kroosers case... lol
I have not seen any progress photos of his project in quite some time, which is the basis of the comment. If he has purchased tires recently he can perform the test properly.I think there should be lifeguards in the genepool.

Back then, they was Firestone and harder than Superman's knee cap. You had two choices Hard and real Hard. The Drag race guys started wrapping in the 70s for storing them for off season. It's not just for the oils, it deters Ozone from helping with that, in case you do a lot of welding in the shop. I believe the first couple World 100s was won on Firestone.
