Yeah up until 2010 or 2011 I believe it was by invite only and they only allowed 66 cars to show up and a lot of drivers (mainly Feger in 2011 if I recall) got super butt-hurt over it. Now it is wide open to anyone and you can only get 51 cars. The track is so fast and hard on equipment, I could understand why many of the lower budget teams from the other side of the Mississippi would stick around and either run local or take a week off. Word 100 hangover effect may have a little to do with it too, especially for teams that ran bad up there just 4 days prior.Originally posted by TUTY View PostSad car count for a BIG show but very good drivers. They better figure this out soon or not these BIG shows like Knoxville won't be able to fill a B-Main. 2-$7000 shows to start doesn't work and I believe $500 To Start.

I don't think the track being fast and hard on equipment is the reason for the car count. The biggest race of the year was just 4 days prior. Other tracks run races on this date. The guys with out deep pockets can't afford travel and time that close. The crews don't have enough vacation time and some have to repair the cars and some know the don't have the equipment to compete and it's not the world. It's too bad, with the cars and fans, this could have been the best paying race of the year. 125k to win and 10k to start was Cappy's dream. Don't tell the LMs that the sprint cars get 10k to start

Agree with Bubstr.
a look at tonight's starting lineup and I can think of very few racers that would add to the show.
and just like every other big event: I'm a big fan of the local/regional racers that fill the pits looking only to test their skills against the best in the business. without those race teams most of the crown jewels couldn't support themselves.

Knoxville didn't start out a sprint car track. Went there in 62 to see what it took to run for the big money, 1k lol, Most mods and super mods with a few sprint cars. The sprint cars and fans embraced the track and made it their own. BTW it scared the hey out of us. After that the LM rarely got a good weather race date. Corporate sponsors jump on because of the large crowd and interest. If you have something to sell, you can sell it.
