Several years ago when Durham was a Yates employee, Josh improved the exact same way without chevs. I think his sbcs were Jack Cornett back then. Dont know anything about Chevs this year but Mr Cornett is no fool.

Josh would have won by 260 if they would have shed some of his lady’s ego and started the year with what embarrases every version of an sbc yet conceived. Any time a Ford wins everyone always “hears” that they are way more money.

Josh’s peice is very Ford and not ultra modern or exotic. 1969 Boss 302 to SVO stuff in the early 80s to Yates improvements in the early 90s to SC1 around 2000 to D3 10 years ago.

I think the chassis and the guy setting up and the guy wheeling said chassis has far more to do success than the motor. All the big name builders put together a great piece.

If you can debate whose chassis is best , you can debate who has the best engine. I remember going to late model races and only seeing small block chevy engines in the cars. Much more interesting with some Ford designed engines in some cars now.

The builder is the main thing to look at. When you were under Roush and who knows who else, that experience matters.

Maybe, barring a flat tire, we'd all be talkin about Pro Power which to some is a inferior piece. Some folks get too excited over a engine builder

Andy is as good as there has ever been. When you are using stuff you can buy right over the counter at your local Ford dealer and beating everyone this badly (remember he has been breaking WoO win records as well) you are a gifted wrench.

All the drivers I hear talking say shocks and setup are a greater factor today than chassis or engine. Most all the chassis brands are good and the engines....well.....they are all about the same too.

yea if you think about some chassis hit a hot streak by finding the right setup just ask davenport couldn't get one car to do what he wanted but another on he can win in it....an assume each car has the same power plant... horsepower only counts if you can hold it wide open

Why do we discount this type of the thing? There are lots of ol gear heads that don't come to the races anymore thinking everyone runs the same stuff just with different colored gaudy plastic wrap....... sick of goofy nick names, alkies, and skulls and cross bones. The D3 or SC1 is not only the most dependable and powerful piece out there its also the most driveable. The lack of cushion these days means the most peak power is certainly not the only factor. If they keep oil in Andy's D3s, they are the best piece in the history of the sport. The Rocket house car is truly a gift to the sport not something to be looked down upon.

I'm pretty sure jimmy Owens won lucas titles with a d3 Cornett's before Andy Durham racing engines was a company. He didn't invent the d3 head and I doubt he ports raw castings with a wood chisel. I'm not disagreeing that clearly he builds great engines. The world 100 was stupid slick the last 2 years and cornett and pro power won them. Don O'Neil broke the track record and embarrassed everyone at Pittsburgh with a 10 degree cornett. All of the major builders have excellent pieces.
