The tracks I race at in Iowa have a 1 minute a lap time limit and a 1 spin rule in the heats and 2 spin rule in the feature. Seems to work out alright.
Fans indicate a desire for time limits on classes during special events

I'd like to see four classes at all ump tracks for weekly racing and no more than two support classes for special EventsI am what I am

I like how most (not all) UMP Summernationals programs run: Lates, Mods, and ONE of the track's classes. Short, sweet, and to the point.Opinions are my own. Twitter.com/ShinySideUp18

A good joint might run the support heats first to iron in the track then the big guns. Then let the tour guys have some time to do some set ups by running the support feature. Our local shows generally start about 6:30 so most shows are done no later then 10:30/11:00pm.Member of the Luxemburg Speedway Hall of Fame

Yes kid they do. Eldora would be one example and plenty other tracks have ran a LM only program with a higher ticket price and do very well.

Eldora is in a league of its own! Before I went to the big E for the first time, I said I would rather see A support division! I still think another class wouldn't hurt the show, but I will continue to go with the current situation! I don't like down time in general, but it's mostly painless at Eldora. That's not the case at most tracks! Tony has enough equipment to do anything fairly quickly. And especially for EAMS, many packer cars!! Time limits at all tracks should be used, special events or not!

As a driver from a small team I like having some support classes. Really hard if your off or have an issue to get repaired and or tuned before the B main after a heat if no support class.

Most series have minimum and or maximum amount of support classes they will allow in their contracts as well as the type of support classes allowed. Not too often will you see a narrow/street tire stock car class run with the National series. My thought has always been if it's a normal series race like a 50 lapper then 2 support classes is good. Maybe 3 if the headliner doesn't have enough cars for a b feature. Those 2 or 3 classes will have more fans and sponsors show up to that race than any other normal show of the year. Sure they are there to watch the headline but the little guys will be remember ed for racing that night by the average Joe as well. Any big show like a 100 lapper, should have 1 support class just to help kill some down time. Imo eldora should be about the only place that does 1 class only.
Also, if you do support classes, make them different classes. The average fan doesn't know the difference between a sport mod and a usmts mod, or a crate late and WOO lates. Keep it simple for those new and not close to die hard fans that are needed to support those special events

The biggest race up my way has no support classes and could probably use one to fill the down time in between heats and consis.

I know of a couple of promoters have told me that the guys that support their track on a weekly basis deserves to race that night just like the big dogs.

The USAC National Midget/UMP Summernationals show at Lincoln, IL was a prime example of how two top of the line dirt racing series' can do the promoter, and the fans, good. It was standing room only and fans of both genre's got exposed to national caliber talent. Sarge ran what was considered the headliner (USAC Midgets) first with the late models immediately after. No one left and both races were exemplary. We can live with that scenario.
