Larson also said he wasn't doing as much midget racing so he can do more sprint stuff. his magic # is 25 dirt races. just hope when he retires from nascar paul silva is still around. Larson is very potent in his #57...Comment

Ive felt sort of the same way about Bell vs Larson, but if theres any knock on Larson to me, its he isnt quite as aggressive as Bell. Larson has a bit more of a smooth calculated approach which i think favors him in any other car like sprints and nascar, whereas Bell being more aggressive helps him in midgets. Dont get me wrong, Larson can be aggressive, but there seems to be that voice that says "this has a 10% chance of working, lets wait til next lap" whereas Bell has already pitched it sideways and drove in 5 cars too deep.Originally posted by Illtsate32 View PostComment

I tend to agree with your observation, tb1545. We've watched both Bell & Larson a lot during their dirt career's. When it became abundantly clear that Larson was a cold calculated hombre' was out at Perris at the 2012 Turkey Night Grand Prix. Turkey Night is a long race (98 laps on the short half of Perris) for midgets and when Larson finally got the lead he began running just off the bottom. Bryan Clauson was running up by the wall and chased Larson for 20 laps or so and ultimately got into the wall and crashed pretty hard. Tracy Hines blew a right rear chasing Larson with just a handful of laps and Jerry Coon's Jr. also chased him. Those 3 guys were as good as anybody at that time. What it came down to was Larson knew it was going to take an outside pass to get around him and he kept the car straight and made 0 mistakes when it counted. I'm no expert but at that moment it was clearly evident that Larson was a thinking driver.
However, The Chili Bowl brings out the beast in Larson. He is 100% wild man and it's cost him a couple of times over the past 2 or 3 years there.
I honestly believe Bell will probably evolve into that type of driver, as well. But for now, as was pointed out earlier, he's balls out. Anyone who was at Lincoln, IL for the Summernationals/USAC National Midgets will attest to that.Last edited by CIRF; 12-28-2017, 12:43 PM.Comment

CnBF, I've gone to IOW for race status information when weather is a concern and for race updates of shows I can't attend. Very good information source. It is rather tribal but not nearly as bad as here. Modified, dirt late model and street stock fans are grudgingly tolerated. Even wingers are given somewhat of a hard time. Wingless sprint cars, midgets and Silver Crown cars dominate the conversations. Indy Cars are treated with some respect, as well.
Clamped, you're correct, I've never been to The Grove but it's high on my list of things to do. It was on our agenda to pull the camper out there for the USAC Silver Crown/midget events last June but making a living got in the way of that. The Grove Silver Crown event isn't on the schedule in 2018 so I mighta' missed out altogether since I'm not all that big into wings. However, I'd like to do the National Open some time, for sure, but it's during a time of year that makes it very difficult to get away from home.

I never missed a STARS late model races back in the day at the Grove and they always put on a he11 of a show with either locals Gary Stuhler or Scotty Haus cleaning their clocks.Comment

cirf you must remember the guys on iow are mostly usac fans and have been for ever. i'm in my 50's and probably one of the youngest guys on there. if you don't run a drc chassis, claxton motor and a hoosier spec rr tire a lot of those guys don't want to watch it...lol. I like it all. been on both sides of the fence!!!Comment
