I'd have to call that one a racing deal. Too much at stake to intentionally do that early in the race.

If it sits at your jaw while your neck is stretching during a wreck, your head will snap over it and break your neck. With the old school seats, we didn't hit anything. It was pretty simple. Now, it isn't.
You can bet your azz if I have to have a headrest, I want it high.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

The only way your neck is stretching that much straight vertical is if you're upside down. Even then, that's a lot of stretch.

It’s basic physics. The normal force on the body in a frontal, side, or rear impact is at a downward angle because you are adding the downward pull of gravity to the lateral force coming from the impact.Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View PostYour body, your belts, you'd be surprised.

Not sure what you are trying to say. The body wants to continue in the direction it was going prior to the car being impacted. What happens in a barrel roll? Or if you land on your roof? You can find some videos with crash dummies.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

Look at the in-car views of the cars in NASCAR. All of them have the headrest below the visor, as it should be. When a car gets hit from the side, the driver doesn’t experience a direct force from the side. We are always feeling a constant downward force from gravity and forces combine in what’s called the normal force, which is what the driver experiences. The straight down pull of gravity combines with the straight lateral impact to sum to a downward angle normal force. That’s going to be the case for any impact with the car upright.

Once you throw on banking, the normal force is pulled even more downward in relation to the orientation of the car. What I'm getting at is that you won't see an upward stretch unless the driver is upside down.
