LUCAS OIL LATE MODELS SET FOR ILLINOIS DOUBLEHEADER BATAVIA, OH (April 24, 2018) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make their presence known in the “Land of Lincoln” this weekend, returning to Tri-City Speedway and Macon Speedway for a pair of $12,000-to-win events. The weekend doubleheader to wrap up the month of April will kick off on Friday, April 27 at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, followed by an appearance at Macon Speedway in Macon, IL on Saturday, April 28. At both venues, the nation’s top dirt late model drivers are expected to challenge a strong field of local and regional standouts. “Tri-City and Macon have a history of producing some of the most exciting events of the season,” said Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director, Rick Schwallie. “The level of competition this season has been second-to-none. The Midwest has some of the toughest competitors anywhere in the country. Fans are in store for a very exciting weekend of racing.” Tri-City Speedway is a 3/8-mile oval located just north of St. Louis, MO. Last year the Late Model feature, which was the final event of the evening, took the checkered flag at 9:37 PM Central. Granted it was a weeknight but even our opening night weekly show this past Saturday night with 6 divisions and close to 100 cars was done by 10:15.

That is a rare thing at a dirt track...cannot stand the draggin out of shows when the majority come to see late models and travel a good distance to do so

Kid, I have to admit it's generally better now than it used to be at Macon. I love the place no matter what division is the headliner and attend at least 7 or 8 events at Mighty Macon every year. However, ol' Back Gate Bob caught so much flack over a debacle involving a POWRi midget show a couple of years ago that went way, way too long and the track went to hell because of excessive support classes. He publicly promised to cut back on the support divisions. That lasted about half the season.

I expect that the Saturday show will not be a marathon but it isn't all that rare at Macon. I know, I've sat through a few!
