Shawano DK comments....

If I committed to a series (even if just in my head), and that series has a points payout at the end of the year (which I believe Dirt Kings does), and that series' season opener had already been postponed more than once...I highly doubt I would risk racing the night before the "new" season opener, just because that other race were in the same state, in fear of possibly tearing up my stuff or something.

But I'm finding that the older I get, the more conservative I am with not only my decisions but my driving style, too. Just my thoughts as someone looking from the outside, in.

Ron Berna lost his engine on the first lap of Saturday's main at Shawano.

Justin Reed got caught up in a wreck in his heat and put some major hurt on Jeff Curtin's new Laser chassis... they didn't make the feature.

I didn't mean to bad mouth the track prep crew at Shawano with my dust comments... to be fair they do a good job there but Mother Nature was hitting the track with a solid 20 MPH wind right from the north. The flag was straight out most of the night. I'm sure that was the major cause of the dust bowl conditions.

Regarding running Lucas with a Saturday night car.... don't they wave all those newly mandated 'safety' rules for three nights specifically to allow the locals to come join the fun?

BTW ..... I'm kind of a beer bottle is half full kinda guy... kept mine covered Saturday night.

Anyone know why DK is not going back to Plymouth this year?

Anyone know why the Scheffler Memorial race at Beaver Dam is not a DK event? Was pleasantly surprised to see DLM racing return their after nearly a decade absence.

I believe the Scheffler family has all the input in the Memorial race...it's kind if their deal.

Yes they wave for x amt of shows but besides tire let's not forget entry fee. 6 tires & entry fee $1200 for one race. Last in feature is what $500???........don't seem worth it does it

The start pay for the Lucas race was $1000. But just for clarification, not argument.

The tire rule is a challenging aspect at times because they tend to require the compounds that are commonly run in that area. But I think Wissota requires 30's, which is why the Dirt Kings have that rule.

I'll pile on that. Even if you did spend $1200 to make $500, that happens all the time. How do you make a million dollars in racing? start with two million.

But for that $700 the local driver "lost", he was able to run with and hopefully learn from the best, and all the sponsors on that car just benefitted from the increased attendance and media on a national level. If I were a business owning dirt late model fan, who sponsored a local car who didn't show up for the night that would have provided a bigger return on their investment... I would have been disappointed. Argue it whichever way you want... but if a person wants to do something bad enough, they will find a way.

Won't disagree but racing has to be looked at as a business. Well run businesses aren't going to do something they know is going to cost them money. I get both sides of argument, just wanted to point out the owners side that many forget.

Side note: I'd really love or hear how much business is drummed up from advertising on a race car. At this level I just can't imagine is enough to justify what they paid to sponsor typically

^^^ That's one of my arguments for not even seeking sponsorship in the first place. And I'm well aware of my capabilities, so I know I would stand little chance of securing even the smallest of sponsors. But, I'm curious how locals approach any business on paying to have their name on a car.

You can also become bogged down, or at the mercy of a sponsor. Without, I can decide when and where I race. And the more $ a sponsor puts in to a program, the more they undoubtedly will want a say on when or where you race. I prefer to be my own boss with regards to that, so I leave it at that. And it shows in the final result of how I run, I get it, but it also depends on why you race in the first place.

No one sez you have to buy new tires for the show... I would bet good money you could walk thru the pits at any Lucas race and buy 6 tires for a few hundred bucks... maybe less. If you make the show then maybe you'd buy a new RR...
