Purvis may be the best I've ever seen, but in my opinion I don't think he raced dirt long enough to knock some of these others out of the top 4.

My personal Mt Rushmore would look like this...
Jo Fabrizius, Arnie Gardner, Bob Kelly and Dennis Erb Sr.

My 4 drivers may be a little different........... I've only been following dirt track racing for the last 8-10 years but the 4 drivers that stand out to me are: BLOOMQUIST, RICHARDS, DAVENPORT AND SHEPPARD

Easy top 3 for me:
Billy Moyer
Scott Bloomquist
Freddy Smith
But that 4th is tough. There are 100 reasons you can go either way with these:
Buck Simmons
Mike Duvall
Larry Moore
Donnie Moran
CJ Rayburn
I just can't put a non-driver on there. Mt. Rushmore is for Presidents - so to have someone other than a driver would be like putting the campaign manager on there lol.

This list could include many others, and there are great arguments for each.. But for me, these guys are the ones that stick out to me when I was first introduced to our sport..
Smith
Moyer
Purvis
BloomquistI don't always post on 4m.. But when I do, I'm usually sitting on the crapper!!

1. Bloomquist (most career majors) 2. Moyer (2nd in career majors) 3. Owens (3rd in career majors) 4. Purvis (greatest stretch in late model history) Moran was great at Eldora but never won a Show Me 100, Topless 100, Knoxville Nationals. A top 3 driver needs to have won at different tracks in my opinion. Theres 8 major races a year. World 100, DREAM, DTWC, Knoxville, Topless 100, USA Nationals, Show Me 100 and North South 100. Owens has 14 wins to Moran's 10. 6 of Morans 10 was at Eldora which is incredible but not enough for me to put him ahead of Owens. if we are doing drivers onlyLast edited by Planetzer0; 05-31-2018, 10:38 AM.

Shane Clanton
Cheeseburger Lake
Blonde Bomber Mitchell
Billy Moyer Jr. Jr.
The sculpture will look like this, Shane Clanton will looking out towards the track in disgust because its passing points, Lake will be eating a cheeseburger that Billy Moyer Jr. Jr. bought from a McDonalds Drive Thru and Blonde Bomber will be be behind them all.Last edited by KAOS; 05-31-2018, 01:02 PM.Only in racing does a person knowingly put on a dud show, and then blames everyone else for not appreciating their dud show.

I would agree. My list would be about the same. If Pervis would have stayed in dirt racing long enough I think he would be right there as well.Originally posted by flagone View PostEasy top 3 for me:

I think there are about 10 / 11 or so drivers that really helped push the sport along and I think you listed 8 of them. To round out the 10 / 11 I'd say Charlie Schwartz, Jack Boggs, & Jeff Pervis.
If a statistician where to make a list of all time greats; there would be maybe 10-15 maybe 20 on the list that where those guys you looked at and knew when they pulled in the pits they had a chance to win on any given night.
I know the old saying "Any driver can win on any given night" but in many cases it takes putting it all together and not just being lucky.
Making a Mount Rushmore list would be hard because there where many who have come and gone that where very good on a national and regional level.
I think for me to consider a driver to be an all time great you should have the accolades and stats to back it up. I think you need to be great for a certain length of time and have been around the block a time or too.
I'd like to see some one put a list together of say maybe 20 drivers who just had that "IT" factor and where just that darn good.Nathan Stephens
