As was said in another thread, it is about costs. teams are getting more responsible about where they tow to race. It only makes sense. You have several series out there. LM is not dying, not at all. However the local LM shows are struggling in some areas. 78 cars is just fine for a great three day show. Especially since most of them are good cars. There is a lot of opportunity for LM drivers to race for added purses. This race with few exceptions goes to one of the top tier teams. Erb was a great story, but that is unlikely to happen very often. Should be a great weekend for fans, weather looks good too.

Not the fans...they show up and show out cash for tickets, camping, food, t-shirts, etc.

Why don't you share with us what your "dream" purse for the Dream should be and then run the math to see what it would cost each fan that attends in order to make that happen.

Then you can open up your purse and find a few more $20's and convince everyone else to do the same to make it happen.

Meanwhile, most of the guys in the pits will pull thru the gate with a $500,000 toter and trailer.

These guys are all trying to live nascar lives on short-track earnings. And that is why you only have 78 cars instead of 120+ at Eldora this weekend....b/c the same six guys continue to win 70% of the money at all the high paying events across the country.
I was just pointing out that the purse was pretty weak in the earliest years of the World 100. Not disagreeing about the fancy trailers and parts and tire arsenals that will be there this weekend.

But I will ad that the tracks profit from the total event will be much larger than the purses.

Yes it was weak. Earl was a genius at building this event. Guys came here to make history. You win the World 100 and you have your career made. At least that is what drivers and teams felt. in the early nineties Audie McWilliams ran third I think, and I was talking with his dad. He got 5G's. Yikes.

the world always gets more cars because by then a lot of tracks have closed and that was the show. the dream, running in june, always got fewer cars because most tracks more than a 100 or so miles away are running. racing for three days and using the finish of the Thursday and Friday shows as points races to make the dreams is also expensive for your weekend racer. fewer cars, but mostly the same race.

The world gets more cars because it's the biggest/most prestigious late model race there is. If it paid 10k it would still get tons of cars. If they ran it in June it would still get tons of cars.

Earl made the world what it is...end of story. It is THE race for many SLM teams. The Dream has never pulled the cars the world does. SLM racing has many cast off series from lucas and wrg. There is money to be made a lot closer to home this time of year. Some hope the dream pulls there competition away so they have a better chance to make extra cash and keep there expenses in check.

Seems like a good time for the smaller guys to show up to me. Money being spent is rapidly killing this sport
