Lower car counts are bi product of the current format. The past format allowed a smaller local team to make good lap on fri and have a solid starting spot in sat night heat race. Anyone that has watched the heat races in the old format knew the first few heats were all hammer down. A smaller team starting upfront in a heat had a decent chance to make the feature.
The current format, racing three nights gives a distinct advantage to the bigger teams with more organization and resources. The cream rises to the top in this format and anybody that can win the 100 lapper will be there.
IMO i prefer the new format, but like everything it has draw backs.

also dream never had as many cars as world, dream used to draw 120 cars, world 200 cars.

The profit for the dream is nowhere near what it is for the world although tony has added a lot of money to the world it is still a huge race all the way around.

Purvis won 123,300 in today’s dollars for his win at the Strohs National 100 at Hagerstown! Just think a new car with the best of the best on it was 6k. The best motors weren’t but 10k. Top of the line (box truck) hauler was 24k, and trailer maybe 5k. He got free tires and cars. Motors he paid full price with free rebuilds from Ray Baker. Kept fresh motors all the time. By 1989 he still got 200 free Hoosiers a year and the rest at cost.

I think the Dream needs to be paying around 200,000 to win at least.
That was it's whole reason for existence. It was THE highest paying to win Late Model Race.
Now, it's tied for second. The Dirt Million will probably hit 200k for the winner, and the DTWC doubled their winner's purse to 100K in 2015.

At one time a lot of guys were qualifying 2 cars and that jacked up the car count....then they made a rule against entering 2 cars....but even after that they had more cars than this...50 or 60 good cars is all i need...a lot of guys show up their knowing they dont have a chance in he!! Of making it... They just want to say they raced at eldora...

$100,000 in June of 1994 would be equivalent to $169,287.84 in April of 2018 (the inflation rate for May and June 2018 is not available yet). Looking at it another way, $100,000 today would have been equal to $59,070.99 in 1994. Compare those stats with the cost of building a competitive car for this event then and now. You can also compare the cost of a ticket for the event if you know what it was in 1994.

With next year being the 25th anniversary of the Dream, cut it back to two days but make it really big. Pay $25,000 to win, $2,500 to start for each of the double features on fri. and pay $250,000 to win, $5,000 to start for the Dream on Sat.
